Title: 94 or 95 ford ranger 4wd not engaging.
Post by: Alex on February 26, 2009, 05:19:10 PM
I have a buddy I work with up here that cant get his 4wd to engage.  I believe he has a push button and it has the famous TTB front axle. I dont know anything about them but i would guess it is the solenoid that controls the switch or a vacuum leak but that would just be aguess.   What controls the 4wd?  Thanks

Is the push button on the roof?

Its either the shift motor on the tcase the cpu that controls the shift motor or the button it self.  All 3 are common.

The axles lock in once the front driveshaft turns.

Will it go in 4hi?  Do the lights by the buttons flash or the 4x4 light on the dash?

Alright, i talked with him today.  I believe it is the auto locking hubs.  He said that he put it on jack stands and the front drive shaft is spining and so is the axle shafts but the front wheels are not spinning.  What controls the auto locking hubs or does this mean new hubs?

99% sure he needs new hubs and he can get the manual hubs from the j/y for cheap.
