Anybody want to get together for a day trip on Saturday 9/17?
I was thinking possibly Durhamtown to check out the new park, and the man-made stuff in parking lot.

I was wanting to ride somewhere. Beasley and Morris Mountain are closer for me but I might could make the drive out to Dtown. Just making sure I got the cash to travel to GATRfest

Sounds like the way the way it has looked since the second ride. Tried to look at it Wed. when I went through Oxford, but I guess Barry had some thing else to do {toast} {toast} the shop was closed up.

Michael and I talked about riding at a local place that saturday in conyers. It would be close and doesnt cost anything, but there is chance you can get asked to leave. I rode out there this past sunday and didnt have any issues...post up if interested.

cant be at dtown that weekend... there is a jeep show here in savannah and we have a house warming party that night... for those that do go to dtown have fun... Mike Mc will be in Minn for a ATV/Bike rally or something like that... and as far as wheeling where your not allowed... why do that.. Morris Mnt isnt that far from you.. hell the NFS has trails for you to ride as well... one day the light bulb will come on...

Really? Where do you get its illegal to ride? I simply said in Conyers. Also its county land that people have been riding on for 30 years. Not tryin to be a dick here, but damn I simply asked about riding. Im sorry but thats the whole reason Im on your site is to talk with people who enjoy the same hobby as me. I can understand that posting a specific location could hold the site responsible thats why I didnt post it.

You clearly stated its land that you will probably get asked to leave on. I am sure you dont have written permission (cause if you did you would not be asked to leave), so in the state of GA that would probably be trespassing. I doubt its a FSR or park or the rest of us would be there riding.
As this is a club website and not just a free for all forum. It makes us look bad to have discussions on here about people having rides in these areas. For any outsider looking in they have no way of telling the difference between you and an actual GATR member. So therefor your actions look bad on all of GATR. If you want to invite people to places like this, its your business, but use jeep forum or pirate or any other forum but this one.
Im not trying to be a dick either, this just is not the place for you to post such rides in questionable areas. {toast}

I think Michael and I are gonna ride down and try it out. Havent been in about 3 years...figured it was worth a shot and seeing what all has changed.

Very slim chance of me getting the jeep by this weekend but if I do, I would be up for a shakedown run at DT. Will know later in the week. Either way, I have to do a shakedown run before mountainside! Might hit beasley after it is done.

Yeah its been a while since we have been down there so if anyone is going that knows the park pretty good it would be great if we could follow so we want waste so much time searching. {toast} {letseat}

I can't be there this weekend, going to be in Savannah for the Low Country Mud Rats Jeep show.
To get to the obstacle course you go through the "day parking" and it is at the top of the hill (you can't miss it).
They now have maps of both parks, but I still end up getting turned around sometimes and Boulder Springs (may have the name wrong) isn't on either of the maps. If you come out of the camp and head right (like heading to the original park), it is on the left before you make it to the park, there is a sign on the road that points to it. This part is for 4x4's.
In case you haven't seen it they now have a new website for the 4x4 group with copies of the maps and some photos.

there are maps... and boulder ridge is only about a 1/4th of a mile from the lodge on the left..there is a sign... as far as the 2nd park where Slippery Nipple is there are signs posted.. I can not make it this weekend and the owner will be out of town as well.. have a good time and report back what you think... take some pics and post them up... I will be there the 1st weekend of Oct and then for the 14-15th of Oct.. I have to leave on the morning of the 16th for TDY to Ft. Lee..

I'll load pics tonight or in the morning. We had a good day out there once we figured out where things were. The maps are kinda hard to decipher. Michael had the most carnage of the trip to include a broken lower link, a brake line and a shock.

Yeah my day almost ended on the first climb. But thanks to everyone I was back together and riding in less then an hour. I too will try and get our pictures and videos up tonight.

Had a pretty good time out there...the weather was awesome! Boulder ridge was pretty fun and had some good climbs. Slippery nipple was completely dry and was a walk in the park. We made a couple new hill's coming out of the banks on slippery nipple. The park has potential...just needs more work and better maps!!

On the new side if your going down the main trail in instead of turning right to go to slippery nipple turn left and its a ridge line up on the left. Mike needs to go to that ridge and load all them rocks up and spread them up slippery nipple and other places that we seen. The new side of the park has a lot of potential with the hilley terrian and gullies. {toast}

Man looking back at that picture I wish I had've given that climb another try. I think if my heim hadn't of broke it would have made it. Felt like it was pulling good. Oh well just gives me another excuse to make a trip back down there to try it again.

Yeah I'd like to get back down there now that we know where to go and see what we can make. Maybe see if Mike will let us bring a chainsaw with us. If we could cut up that fallen tree on that rock face on the side of slippery nipple it would be a good climb.

Here is what I guess I'll refer to as Wolf Rat , since one of the biggest Wolf Rats I have ever seen lived on it, this is a new line we made on Boulder Ridge and trust me the video does it no justice. Oh and sorry for these crappy quietly videos. The wifes camera died so she was using her phone. Calvins videos should be a lot better.

Oh well, now I will just have to try and make it next time. Of course my Jeep got sold this weekend, so now I am having to start over (but that's what makes it fun).

I tried to tell ya all that Dtown is changing... so what did you guys think about the new man made park?

The man made part was fun but that's wear I broke my brake line and busted a shock on one of the broken pipes. I think the gaps between the pipes need to have a little dirt brought in are concrete poured. The pipes seem to be busting against each other and the inner structure wire is starting to come out of them. We were really concerned with puncturing a tire the short time we played on it. All in all I think Mike is doing a good job and if he keeps it up he has the ability to build a nice park.

From what I've gathered there willing to build what we want. Mike and Joni are super cool only talked via email just got to give them a shout when we want to head down there and go from there. They did day they have been working on the man made area all week hauling rock in everyday so there trying I'll refract that and say the doing. Great place to wheel for a day stock to full buggy. And with owners that care about there park and the people that come to them couldn't ask for a better combo. You can't build a full extream offroad park in a day. If more people go with bigger rigs it won't be long and riverrock will be a thing of the past. I know rr is closed now I'm just say with the right combo going on at dtp right now it will far surpass the day trips to rr. It's only going to happen if people go and put in the time to find trails make line give insight to the owners basically show interest. Wow I can't believe I'm still typing and on my phone of all things dang out of tp crap

I had a good time. It needs more ROCK! DT is our only option really for a park in GA. So I would love to see it grow. Y'all have the room down there to be awesome. Need to dig some of those steeper hill climb's out and stack rock in them to make it more challenging. All in all its a good start...keep working and it will keep attracting rigs. Let us know a day and we will be glad to come down and help out! Oh yea the maps still suck! {toast}

Yeah we spent about half the day trying to navigate the park with the map before we finally ran into a local who showed us around. Wish we would have had more time in the new side.

The map is confusing I threw it in the floor. I led a group around a few weeks ago. I have NEVER met an owner as open as Mike is. But he also had a mud park a few months ago. It is nice he listens and acts. He has said if you want a trail just flag it. And drive drive where you want. I want to take the ranger there for the "payoff" run. Maybe Ryan will man up and be there. Should be in a few weeks. I will have the chain saw with me. Also I can show you stuff on the old side that isnt a walk in the park. {toast}
