Title: Jeep rides like new... Then
Post by: ADAM on October 30, 2010, 12:19:35 PM
We were doing 70 in the rubi"con" on the interstate then all the sudden we hit a bump on the bridge and it went into a horrible death wobble. We thought the co-founders were gonna die. Any ideas why this might happen. We have replaced all control arms, trac bar, coil springs, axles and the tires have been road force balanced.

Was it aligned before or after the lift? Is there a chance one of the tracbar holes is egged out a little?

before but it rode worse than this before the lift. Like I couldn't even get it up to 40 without it wobbling like crazy.

Adam is it a stock jeep with one tons?  What axles, ball joints or kingpins.  Most of the time it is tracbars that cause that kind of shaking.  What kind of mount it the tracbar.  Stock frame mount?  Is the hole wallowed out.  Also check to see if it is pulling from the frame.

That doesn't mean it isn't causing the issue now... 4 links with tracbars are finicky.

The guys at 4Wh Parts had some "choice" words regarding Rough Country. Check the weld for the track bar, they had one snap at the weld. From what they say they have had MANY issues with the RC lift creating death wobble. They may be a good source to bounce this off of ??

My DW was so bad that I nearly had to stop the Jeep completely before it would stop.
Mine turned out to be bad alignment, uneven tire wear & inproper balance. Got new tires, which cured it right away. Got the RC lift & haven't had any problems.

When I DW it turned out to be a warped wheel. new wheels and tires and it hasn't happened since. This may not be the case with you but it solved my issue...

Good Luck...

any chance the trac bar mounts on the axle or frame could be slightly bent?

Problem solved.  After the adjustable control arms were removed we reused the Rubicon Express hardware. Which is bolts and standard washers for the front lower arms @ the axle. Should have reinstalled the factory alignment washers. The caster was bad off. Thanks to Allsouth that aligned it and got it back on the road.
