Title: Oconee River Flooding
Post by: Will on November 12, 2009, 08:34:44 PM
First off,   {nln} Photobucket

This is the highest I've seen the river so I thought i would post some pics. Enjoy!

These are all taken about 200 yards or so from the actual river bed.

I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find that out. It's freakin' high though :o  how is the Okmulgee looking in Macon?

Great photos.  Where are the ones of you trying to cross it?   :D :D :D

I just checked the level of Lake Sinclair and it must have flooded the yard completely yesterday as it was above full pool.

 :(

anyone has picture of the rat hole in regular conditions?  just for comparison.

Ah, it probably did man. I haven't driven over the lake though.

I will never do that crossing again unless I can see at least half of the t-posts.  :D

Notice that there's nothing showing today. There are t-posts, vertical gas line access tubes, and some pretty tall grass under there. I know that the big cylinder at the far end before the river is about 4-5 feet tall. I'm guessing it's about 6-8 feet in the middle of the "trail"  :hlp

Not a great one, but it shows that there's no water there. There's usually no water within 200 yards of the rat hole.

This is from Mark's photobucket. From Fall Crawl

Glad I'm not going to RR this weekend.

I recognized some of the rigs when I was headed back into town this morning so I stopped by where they were setting up camp to say what's up.

Turns out they all rode with Wilson's last year and said they didn't want to go to Mountainside with them. They said that most of the guys were telling them that it's mostly suited for more extreme rigs.

I told them that I haven't been before, but from what I've seen in pics and through word of mouth it's a pretty well rounded place.  {ehm}

Well the rest of the trails looked fine. A wash-out here and there like always.

Found some from back in the day Tedder...

Talkin' about that white box with no doors?  I was thinking the same thing.  It looks vaguely familiar for some reason.

Yeah, you definitely wouldn't catch me in that river right now.  Probably never again either, especially after the first (and last) venture in there.

Well lets see... Daniel decided to go boating... gets stuck. So Matt gets his wife to drive the Durango to the rescue... she gets it stuck. Chris (white Wrangler) goes for the winch rescue but gets stuck.... Chris Hyde is there but his winch is toast, my winch wouldn't work so Alex had to do the dirty work. Oh an Mike (saharah 4dr) got stuck as well and Corey had to pull him out

That's all you got?  I was thinking you might have one while we were all sitting there for 10 minutes for someone to get over there with a winch that worked.  Before the rescue fiasco began.  But come to think of it, you were in the group we were waiting on right?

Yeah man, if it weren't for Alex, that would've been a LLLOOOONNG day.

But just to clarify, it was a Jeep to the rescue, right?  {nln2}

Well, it's kinda hard not to be pulled out of a situation by a Jeep when you're the only non-Jeep vehicle in the club.  But it wasn't your Jeep, so don't get too bold.

Richard's got a HOSS Ford.

That's the one I was expecting to pop up.  The river was up to the bumper.  At first I wasn't worried, but as I sat there and sat there and sat there, next thing I know the water is up to the seats and it was cold.

When you've smacked the front fenders a dozen times then yes  ;D  I hit a tree pretty good when I first got the Jeep and KO'd the passenger fender. Bought those (That was 4 years ago) and have done it again and again to both sides. The sheet metal is completely mangled underneath and sometimes when I smack the fender the plastic diamond plate cover will fly off. But I can always bend the metal back into place and slap the cover back on. Couldn't tell? I guess it's worth it  ;D  You can have 'em as soon as I make tube fenders  ::)  Remind me when I do, you can have em if you want 'em. They're definitely more cosmetic than protection but they keep her looking decent.  {toast}

They're plastic?  But yea, I'll take 'em.  I've got a dent on my passenger fender.  I'm thinking quarter corners for the rear after my build.  Make 'em match and all.

I gotta question too, the chrome grille inserts you painted...what'd you do?  Just rough it up with sand paper or something?  I wanna do the same thing to mine but paint it the body color.

That's what I did with my headlightbezels.  I'm sure it's about the same thing.

Yeah, they're starting to chip a little though  :-\  but I used cheap spray paint. Use a rough grit paper  (220 or so) and then come back over it with something more fine (800). Wipe it down real quick with lacquer thinner or a wax and grease remover and go to town.

Cool.  I've been wanting to do it.  It'll just make my truck look like an Edge edition in the front, but it'll be one less piece of chrome on there.  All that would be left would be the bumpers which means Matt and I had better get started on some bumpers.

just hit them with some 600-800grit and use krylon fusion. its made for plastic and works like a charm.
