Title: ORV trip on Saturday
Post by: clark123456 on December 21, 2013, 07:08:10 PM
Is anyone interested in a trip to Adventure on Saturday?  I haven't called them, so I don't know if they are actually open and if non-members can actually get in...but if that fails we could find another park to visit.  The weather in the southeast looks pretty good this week and this weekend.  This is a feeler.

Dang Clark I would love to but jeep is quarantined. ;-(

We are heading to the farm after Christmas for a few days and then to Gatlinburg and were planning to drive the Jeep but not now.

I'm going to be bored and I don't think the FS ride in January is going to satisfy my desire for challenging terrain.

This is taken from their FB page:

We will be closed at the AOP tomorrow Sunday December 22nd. We will be using this time to prepare for our 5 day event starting next weekend. Make plans to roll in the New Year with us here at the AOP. Gates will open next Friday morning and stay open until dark on January 1st.

I'd be down for Morris or chocco, since theyre close. I cant justify a drive to TN right now. I'm up in the air depending on location, my great grandfather is probably going to pass away sometime this week so i cant make any concrete plans.

maybe perhaps  //LMAO// I could use a good wheelin trip.  If i can go then we could still go to AOP cause Ive got a key.  I will let you know if I can make it later in the week.

I was thinking of December 28th.  AOP was suggested since it is fairly close, I've never been there, and it shouldn't be 'treacherous' since it hasn't rained a lot lately.  I also have never been to Morris mtn.  Chocco on my new tires might be better than last time, so that is also fine with me.  Let's just see if there is enough interest and the status of everyone later this week.

Post up if you have interest and indicate which park would be your top preference and which ones you wouldn't show up for.

I really like Chocco, so that or Morris will get my vote. Saturday should be good for me, my great grandfather passed away last night and the funeral is on Thursday. I'm going to try and get new tires before, if not I'll just rock the 33's again.

Will, sorry to read about your great grandfather passing.  At least you had the relatively unique opportunity to know your great grandfather.

Saturday is good for me.  I've never done Morris, so that would work, but Chocco would be fine too.  Both of those parks are less than 2 hours away, so no sweat on my part.  Let's see if anyone else has a preference.  Have you put the locker in the rear yet?

It's killing me not having it done.

I'm in for Alabama. I think Morris is only open every other weekend, need to see if they're open. Chocco should be like always.

I'm hoping to get my 35's on on Friday.

I'm only locked front lol.

This is my feeler run on 35's and because I might have a friend.

Clark, on the other hand, has a trailer to go home on. I'll video it in 1080.

I don't recall boat ramp being crazy hard (break the jeep apart stuff), but I do recall watching a bunch of people in vehicles built a lot more than mine get winched to the top due to no traction on the slick rock with water running.  If it isn't too dangerous for a short wheelbase I'll give it a go....slow to see if the bl krawlers can get a bite.  I should be able to take the bypass if I can't make it up the ramp.  Am I missing or forgetting something?

I will not walk down the bypass to see some guy break down...that walk back up about killed me last time!

Gimme some time!

I think we could both make it UP the bypass, i will not be walking down again....

I dont think there will be a whole lot of water, it hasnt rained since last weekend or whatever.

I'm thinking a 9 am 'hit the trails' start (gased up, aired down, ready to roll), but I'm flexible.  Then let's ride until 4 pm or so...again, flexible on that time.

Bring a lunch and drinks.

Sounds good to me. Might not make it till 4 (2-4) but everything is good.

I had an appointment tomorrow at 1 at Allsouth for my 35's, but I can't make it due to the funeral. Were going up to Buford on Friday instead, so I'm calling tomorrow morning to see if they can squeeze me in (shouldn't take long). If not, I'll just try to go buy them and get them slapped on Saturday morning so I might be a little behind.

12.50" wide tires?  12 easy, probably 10 or 8.

I run 10 on mine and have not busted a bead. 12.50" wide tire on 8" wheel. 35's were C rated. 37's are D rated.

Well, Will and I made the trip.  Some light rain all day, but nothing too bad and just like Black Moose, the ground doesn't turn into a mud pit like Durhamtown Plantation.

I was denied on Boatramp :(  heck, I couldn't even crawl over the first rock at the entrance to Boatramp.  I could probably have hit it with speed and cleared that first rock only to become trapped on the main rock.  Oh well...maybe in the summer.

The only carnage to my knowledge was losing an inner bead on my front passenger tire about 1 hour into the ride.  I still don't know how it happened, but it was caused around the Rubicon area.  A long ass trip down the mountain to the main building, jacking the tire of the ground, and hitting it with air put the bead back on.  I believe my psi was around 10 when it happened, but I didn't check it prior to the outing.  Two things about this situation: 1) I wish I had gotten double beadlocks, without knowing the cost of them; 2) OBA may have allowed resolution on the mountain.

I got a couple of videos of Will, which I will upload later tonight.

We were the only ones I saw actively playing in the park,  but Will said he saw a couple of jeeps there...probably camping...no ducking way would I do that...39 was the high my truck registered.

I'll toss up some good pics. Your video of boatramp is like you said, nothing really happened.

I smacked the crap out of my front axle, front driveshaft, and long arms.

Only carnage for me is that i think my t case chain is stretched out  //::)//. I have absolutely no motivation to split it open and re do that.

Put a few more pounds of air in the krawlers. They don't need to be that low to work. Not to mention they will start rounding off the tread real quick at very low psi.

Get some Co2 for the lost bead thing...saved my ass when i lost an outer with jared.  I was able to crank the regulator up to 250psi and after about 30 seconds, bead popped right back on.

I need to go to Chocco, I must own Redneck. That damn trail has beaten me twice and I must conquer it before I leave. But Morris is not too far from Chocco anyways, right?

I have some 20lb aluminum co2 tanks from my beer stuff I could use...I might do that.

Damn, Richard, you make a compelling argument for needing to go there.  What have you done to prepare for it this time so history isn't repeated?  Show your work.

I am going to have to try my hardest to make the next ride. Name the place and time so I can pull out all the stops.
