Is anyone interested in a trip to Adventure on Saturday? I haven't called them, so I don't know if they are actually open and if non-members can actually get in...but if that fails we could find another park to visit. The weather in the southeast looks pretty good this week and this weekend. This is a feeler.
-
Dang Clark I would love to but jeep is quarantined. ;-(
We are heading to the farm after Christmas for a few days and then to Gatlinburg and were planning to drive the Jeep but not now.

I'm going to be bored and I don't think the FS ride in January is going to satisfy my desire for challenging terrain.
-
This is taken from their FB page:
We will be closed at the AOP tomorrow Sunday December 22nd. We will be using this time to prepare for our 5 day event starting next weekend. Make plans to roll in the New Year with us here at the AOP. Gates will open next Friday morning and stay open until dark on January 1st.
I'd be down for Morris or chocco, since theyre close. I cant justify a drive to TN right now. I'm up in the air depending on location, my great grandfather is probably going to pass away sometime this week so i cant make any concrete plans.
-
What Saturday are you talking about? I would hope next Saturday since thus one is over already

maybe perhaps //LMAO// I could use a good wheelin trip. If i can go then we could still go to AOP cause Ive got a key. I will let you know if I can make it later in the week.
-
I was thinking of December 28th. AOP was suggested since it is fairly close, I've never been there, and it shouldn't be 'treacherous' since it hasn't rained a lot lately. I also have never been to Morris mtn. Chocco on my new tires might be better than last time, so that is also fine with me. Let's just see if there is enough interest and the status of everyone later this week.
Post up if you have interest and indicate which park would be your top preference and which ones you wouldn't show up for.
-
I really like Chocco, so that or Morris will get my vote. Saturday should be good for me, my great grandfather passed away last night and the funeral is on Thursday. I'm going to try and get new tires before, if not I'll just rock the 33's again.

Thanks. Unfortunately, he took a turn for the worst this past week and I knew it wouldn't be much longer. 98 year old world war 2 vet badass of a man.

My grandfather was a WWII vet. They were a special breed. Generally depression era born, strong, smart and amazingly patriotic.

He absolutely was. One of the best role models I could have asked for.
Thanks for the support everyone!

Sorry to hear. Prayers for the family.

Will, sorry to read about your great grandfather passing. At least you had the relatively unique opportunity to know your great grandfather.
Saturday is good for me. I've never done Morris, so that would work, but Chocco would be fine too. Both of those parks are less than 2 hours away, so no sweat on my part. Let's see if anyone else has a preference. Have you put the locker in the rear yet?
-
I haven't, I don't think I will have the opportunity this week between work, Christmas festivities, and the funeral.
It's killing me not having it done.

Sorry about your loss Will
-
Brent and I were talking about going wheeling after xmas, might be up for this depending where we go.
-
Would Morris or Choccolocco work for you guys?
-
We were looking at Gulches, I will ask Brent about chocco or morris. The more jeeps the better
-
Sorry to hear will.i can't go.im soldering wires and putting cb in after it broke at black moose.

Thank you.
Dang, i forgot i broke my mount too. Might just bolt it to the bumper lol.

I love Gulches...but that may exclude Will.
Will, if we do Alabama are you 100% in?

Will lol ur tough dude.i want to go so bad.arrr

I love Gulches, but not that much lol.
I'm in for Alabama. I think Morris is only open every other weekend, need to see if they're open. Chocco should be like always.
I'm hoping to get my 35's on on Friday.
-
I had hopes of jumping in on this Saturday deal....but my hopes have bed squashed.
Torque Converter comes in tomorrow but the trans shop is on Christmas break until Monday. Not happy
-
I'm in for Alabama. Gulches is a haul for me too.

So what you're saying is install party and you'll come?
-
I could be in as well. Atlsrt8 has been hitting me up to get out and do some wheelin.
-
Who wants to see Clark hit boat ramp?
-
Why would you not hit boat ramp???
It is a easy trail.
-
I'm only locked front lol.
This is my feeler run on 35's and because I might have a friend.
Clark, on the other hand, has a trailer to go home on. I'll video it in 1080.
-
I don't recall boat ramp being crazy hard (break the jeep apart stuff), but I do recall watching a bunch of people in vehicles built a lot more than mine get winched to the top due to no traction on the slick rock with water running. If it isn't too dangerous for a short wheelbase I'll give it a go....slow to see if the bl krawlers can get a bite. I should be able to take the bypass if I can't make it up the ramp. Am I missing or forgetting something?
I will not walk down the bypass to see some guy break down...that walk back up about killed me last time!
-
I'm only locked front lol.
There is no excuse for that situation...none!

Gimme some time!
I think we could both make it UP the bypass, i will not be walking down again....
I dont think there will be a whole lot of water, it hasnt rained since last weekend or whatever.
-
So, are we locked in on Choccolocco?
-
Seems like it haha.
What times are we thinking?
-
I'm thinking a 9 am 'hit the trails' start (gased up, aired down, ready to roll), but I'm flexible. Then let's ride until 4 pm or so...again, flexible on that time.
Bring a lunch and drinks.
-
Sounds good to me. Might not make it till 4 (2-4) but everything is good.
I had an appointment tomorrow at 1 at Allsouth for my 35's, but I can't make it due to the funeral. Were going up to Buford on Friday instead, so I'm calling tomorrow morning to see if they can squeeze me in (shouldn't take long). If not, I'll just try to go buy them and get them slapped on Saturday morning so I might be a little behind.
-
Sadly Im out, got too much going on to get ready for the new year. Hope you guys have a blast either way.
-
I'm getting my tires tomorrow. Might have them mounted by tomorrow night, but if not I'll have to go to a shop on Saturday morning.
-
a tire place should be able to turn them quickly.
-
Heat went out in the JK so it's going to the shop, I'm out on this one
-
But you have an XJ lol.
-
That I would never trust driving 2 hours wheel all day then drive 2 hours back haha. I need a truck and trailer or to just sell it.
-
Why don't you trust it?
Gotta see how low I can air down 35's on an 8" wide rim...
-

Gotta see how low I can air down 35's on an 8" wide rim...
12.50" wide tires? 12 easy, probably 10 or 8.
I run 10 on mine and have not busted a bead. 12.50" wide tire on 8" wheel. 35's were C rated. 37's are D rated.

I ran 40x13.5x17 on 8 inch wide wheels on 8 psi and no bead locks for 3 years before I every lost a bead.

Would love to have joined for a break in run with the TJ, but I am in FL with the family and will be driving back on Sat. Look forward to the pictures and stories...

It's looking like a high likelihood of rain.
Who is in at this point?
I'm still game...wouldn't be wheeling in the southeast without rain.
-
Son of a bitch!
I'm still in... Heavy heavy rain?
-
I can't tell intensity, but chance increases throughout the day. Low in the morning and up to 50% at 2 pm.
-
I think it has rained more days than it hasn't in 2013.
At least there isn't any thick mud, a lot of silt and some clay.
-
Did you get your tires on?
-
Later today, I'm eating with my family.
-
Ok. I'd be interested in an earlier start if you're game since we will have to get out earlier than originally planned if we want to avoid the heavier rain.
-
That's fine, I just need the tires on.
In rain these are slicks
Allsouth has the tires. Jeremy said they are too behind to mount them, I'll go get them and worry about mounting them this afternoon.
-
Coolio.
-
Ready to play!

Can't make it, the SO had other ideas for Saturday.
-
Well, Will and I made the trip. Some light rain all day, but nothing too bad and just like Black Moose, the ground doesn't turn into a mud pit like Durhamtown Plantation.
I was denied on Boatramp :( heck, I couldn't even crawl over the first rock at the entrance to Boatramp. I could probably have hit it with speed and cleared that first rock only to become trapped on the main rock. Oh well...maybe in the summer.
The only carnage to my knowledge was losing an inner bead on my front passenger tire about 1 hour into the ride. I still don't know how it happened, but it was caused around the Rubicon area. A long ass trip down the mountain to the main building, jacking the tire of the ground, and hitting it with air put the bead back on. I believe my psi was around 10 when it happened, but I didn't check it prior to the outing. Two things about this situation: 1) I wish I had gotten double beadlocks, without knowing the cost of them; 2) OBA may have allowed resolution on the mountain.
I got a couple of videos of Will, which I will upload later tonight.
We were the only ones I saw actively playing in the park, but Will said he saw a couple of jeeps there...probably camping...no ducking way would I do that...39 was the high my truck registered.
-
I'll toss up some good pics. Your video of boatramp is like you said, nothing really happened.
I smacked the crap out of my front axle, front driveshaft, and long arms.
Only carnage for me is that i think my t case chain is stretched out //::)//. I have absolutely no motivation to split it open and re do that.

Sounds like a good day out on the rocks.
Boat ramp is just as freaking hard in the summer :) but don't let that stop you from trying.

It was a good day to be out, but I'm ready for some dry and warm weather.
Oh, I'll try Boatramp in the future...being denied is just freakin' awesome

Put a few more pounds of air in the krawlers. They don't need to be that low to work. Not to mention they will start rounding off the tread real quick at very low psi.

Every time I have seen boat ramp success is when people hit it with speed. Sure wish I could have made the ride. Hopefully next time

HAHA. Today was fun, just needed more people to go.

if my transmission was not in two pieces, I would have been there.

Tony, you were there in spirit!
I thought several times about the run of terrible Jeep luck you had in 2013.

Wish I was in town I would have definitely been in for this! Hopefully this rain gets out of here soon. It's been raining every damn weekend
-
Glad to see y'all had such a good time. Definitely would have been there if I wasn't out of town. Good pics/videos!
-
Also would have gone if I was in town. Maybe I the next couple of weekends???
Sent from the iCloud above.......somewhere.
-
So what y'all are saying is that we need to go again soon?
-
Let's try somewhere else...Morris or adventure or ???
-
Get some Co2 for the lost bead thing...saved my ass when i lost an outer with jared. I was able to crank the regulator up to 250psi and after about 30 seconds, bead popped right back on.
-
I need to go to Chocco, I must own Redneck. That damn trail has beaten me twice and I must conquer it before I leave. But Morris is not too far from Chocco anyways, right?
-
I have some 20lb aluminum co2 tanks from my beer stuff I could use...I might do that.
-
Morris is off the Heflin exit, two before the Chocco one from 20 I believe.
-
Damn, Richard, you make a compelling argument for needing to go there. What have you done to prepare for it this time so history isn't repeated? Show your work.
-
He just buries his diff in the ruts. I smacked my rear on that slab, the only like is to go passenger at the top.
-
What Will said.
Sent from the iCloud above.......somewhere.
-
So, a different line is the plan?
-
I am going to have to try my hardest to make the next ride. Name the place and time so I can pull out all the stops.
