Title: Staying in Shape 2013
Post by: lt99ls1 on January 02, 2013, 11:27:39 AM
Started the year off at 245lbs.

Looking for 220lbs some time this year along with some more medals in Jiu-jitsu and Judo.

What are you doing for 2013 to stay healthy?

Joined a gym last week.  I wont tell you where I'm at now, but I need to get down to 250.  Going to try to go after work at least 4 times a week.  Have fun with the martial arts, I used to practice Tae Kwon Do.

Pullups 25 (overhand real kind)

Cling around 200

Front Squat High reps of 200 or more (dont like maxing squats)

Push Press (non strict) 150pds reps

Weight 160-165 lean

I've been running (jogging) three times a week. Up to 2 miles at a 12 min/mile pace.  Want to do a few 5k's this year and look to do a sprint-length (shortest) triathlon in 2014. Scale said 276 this morning and I would like to be at 240!

I plan on getting back in the muay thai gym. This time I plan on mixing it up better so no overtraining. Im thinking boxing 3 days a week, running 2 days a week, and full body weight train on saturdays. I used to box 5 days a week which I think was too much for me. I would like to do a 5k or two this year as well (if my bum knee will hold up, lol)  //OLDSKOOL//

Once the weather warms up, the MTB comes out and pounds come off. Probably gonna try to get back to riding or walking to work as well. Need to get in the gym again, but I HATE gyms. Been in the thick of all that and don't care to do it again. Crossfit stuff might work well for me.

If anyone is interested, I'm going to get back into going Tuesday/Thursday after work to the gym. Anyone else wanting to join is welcome since others motivate me (and I hope I motivate others!).

Typically I show up 30 minutes before spin class. For the guys wanting to loose weight, do spin class. I know it sounds a little light in the loafers but seriously, you will loose a ton of weight and have decent cardio for other activities (not as good as running, but pretty good!). Also there is a chance of strengthening your lower body and core which is a plus. I sign up, then go do weights before the class starts. Nothing crazy, just machines.

I work in Kennesaw so the Barret Pkwy LA Fitness is where I'm going to get back at it (I've been informed the kennesaw location is crowded and I used to go to the Brookhaven one that is out of the way for me).

Might be good to exercise and talk wheeling. My goal is to drop 15 lbs in the next three months. That is when road biking and mountain biking season really kick in and it would be awesome to be in good shape for that. Any increase in strength of my core and upper body would be an added bonus.

I'm going to start next week. Hopefully by then all the new year resolutioners will have crapped out and it won't be stupid busy.

I hit 290 on bench in my workout. It wasn't a max just pyramiding upward. I'll take that for weighing 170 pounds, but now it's time to work on my other goals.

Started doing one scoop of protein with milk for breakfast and lunch. Sure helps curb the hunger. Hopefully I can slow down the amount of times my hand goes near my face.

I have been a gym rat for about 12 years now. My desk job this past year has put a hurting on my diet. So I think my diet is more of my concern this year. I'm about 223 right now and want to get down to single digit body fat. Time for meal prepping and increase the cardio after my weight workouts. Started a new supplement stack 2 weeks ago and feeling strong right now.

I have been looking at it quite a bit as well. It's expensive as bell though. Unlimited is like $175-$200 a month

I started back kick-boxing. take 2 classes Mon/Fri and do a lesson on Wed.  on tue/thur i do this thing called fast twitch, its like crossfit.  lasts an hour.    the thing i love about kick boxing, is, i get to
beat stuff, let out stress, and when its over i feel beat but i dont feel like i did the boreing tread mill thing.  its fun, and time goes pretty fast in class.  i take lessons so i make sure im doing it right
im into light contact/sparing not sure if i want to advance past that, im doing it for fitness, not self-def.   i have a 9mm i use for that.   </ARMATA/>

Ouch.  Looks like I should stop pissing and moaning about the $25 added to to the $150 a month for Jiu-jitsu and Judo. Plus I have already have a key to the place.

So far I've been going to the gym at 5~5:20am in the morning. No problems getting in but it seems like trying to leave, every idiot comes out of the woodwork to be in the way. I had one idiot who couldn't figure out why the "credit card only" machine at the exit of the parking lot couldn't accept cash  ::) . Some of the machines/weights do get a touch crowded but I can do something else for 5 minutes and it'll be freed up.

Spin class has been pretty good. Some of the instructors aren't very good and one girl is just downright awful. I *almost* got up in the middle and left it was that bad. The evening instructors seem to be better. The classes are great since they force me to go and give me some structure.

I know its just been a few weeks and only at 3~4 times a week, but I already feel better. Dunno about the weight loss situation nor the muscle capacity situation, but in general I just feel better. I sleep better and have lesser feelings We will see this weekend when I help friends move.

My current goal is to be ready for a big mountain biking trip at the end of March. My primary focus is lower and middle body strength along with a crapton of cardio.

Been doing insanity workouts with the wife, its the best bang for my time for cardio with strength building since its so much of a workout in a relatively short time commitment.  Its damn hard but I feel like I'm on top of the world when I'm done.  Plus Tanya is pretty hot.  My entire body is slammed, and there is no way I can do it more than 4 days a week.

I took a couple of months off, actually 4 weeks was due to the stupid flu. I cant believe how quick the body gets out of shape. I thought I was going to pass out yesterday!

There's a lot to be said about the saying that goes, "If you don't like starting over then quit stopping!"

My first 5k is coming up Saturday in Winder. Anyone wanna run? It's Chick-fil-A race series. They give you a nice shirt and easy to get one of those cool guy metals. The metal range is in 5 year increments.

Ordered new shoes for running which should be tomorrow. Gonna shoot for a 20 minutes and change time. It's 100% flat so that should be doable. I have been lazy so anything better than that and I'll would have to walk which would kill my time.

Running sucks.

Jiu-jitsu/Weights/Cardio/Judo for the win.

It's amazing what a difference it can make by changing your eating habits or even the types of food. Even just a small change can have huge effects, it's crazy and aggravating sometimes!

I'm finally down to 213 and it has been a slow, slow process. I think I'm averaging 1 to 1.5 pounds a week. It was about 5 years ago that I only weighed 213 and its been about 23 years since I was below 200 pounds. So I just need to lose another 14 pounds.......

I was 255 or so when I graduated last year and now I'm right around 220. Feel better overall and none of my clothes right anymore. My asthma has gotten better too and the pollen didn't bother me either. Ate less and are better for the most part, some exercise too.
