Title: I'm back!
Post by: BigMike on November 19, 2013, 11:11:32 AM
I sold my '09 Rubicon about a year and a half ago.  Miss it since the day I sold it.

I have a '14 Rubicon on order and it should be here Friday or Monday (God willing and the creek don't rise).  Also just renewed my membership here.

Metal Cloak 2.5" Game Changer lift (delivery scheduled for 11/22)
ProComp 7069 17x9 wheels wrapped in 35x12.50-17 Goodyear MTR Kevlar
ACE Engineering bumpers, sliders, and flat fenders (need to order this week)
Warn M8000 winch (old reliable)

I plan to install the lift/wheels/tires the first change I get.  Then mount a fire extiguisher and install a CB so I can hit the trails.  I'll get the bumpers, skids, and fenders mounted when they come in.

Dang, I like the old one!  What color is the new one?

The new one is Granite Crystal Metallic.  Looks great on the Challenger but not sure it's a good color for a trail rig.

Yep, another 2D.  No kids and my wife has an '11 JGC Overland (Hemi).  I've had a lot of new vehicles but never ordered one.

Here are the options that I ordered:
Granite Crystal Metallic
5-speed automatic
Remote Start
730N Navigation
Auto Temperature A/C
Power Convenience Group
Heated Front Seats
Trailer Tow Group
Connectivity Group
Deep Tint Windows
Sunrider Top
4.10 Axle

Lift and wheels get installed tomorrow! Ive logged 30 miles in it so far and can't stand driving a stock Jeep. The wrenches will be turning in my garage tomorrow.

That's awesome!  The latest new vehicle I bought had a detailed break-in procedure (it sucked driving it until the break-in period was over).  Does Jeep detail a break-in procedure for the JKs?

There is a 'wrench day' subsection in the Shop Talk supersection that may garner you some help if you desire some.

I got the Metal Cloak lift installed over the weekend.  I netted 4.25" front/4" rear on the 2.5" lift.  Metal Cloak saw my post on JKO and contacted me.  Turns out they sent me 3.5" springs.  Easy mistake.  They are shipping the 2.5" springs today.  Springs are easy to swap.  I'll post up some after pictures too.

It rides really good but a little twitchy.  I loaded it down today when I picked up the bumpers and and it was like driving a totally difference Jeep.  Great road manners and very smooth.

Twitchy, too little castor?

Is it this kit that comes with front upper control arms only?  A different approach than most.

I got the Duroflex kit that has the upper and lower control arms.

I don't have the control arms dialed in yet - the front pinion and castor needs set.  I don't want to spend the time until I get my bumpers installed (and now the springs as well).

Wow, I need to provide some updates.

2.5" Metal Cloak lift
Ace Pro Series front and rear bumpers
Rock Hard spare tire license mount with LED brake light
Warn M8000
Black Box LED's on Poison Spyder Low A-Pillar mounts
ProComps and 35's
AntennaX
Surprise Straps
Tuffy Console
Vector Off-road UFO's (replaces the windshield bumps on the hood)
Changed out the RUBICON decals for Rubicon X decals

Still have some things to do but the big stuff is done.  Getting the CB and fire extinguisher mounted this weekend.

Good lookin!  How do you like that rear bumper so far?  Does the spare tire carrier rattle at all?

That bumper looks super stout.  First one I have seen.

Does the tire holder part of the bumper attach to the rear door too?

I love the rear bumper.  It works with the tailgate so there it is just like stock.

There is a little rattle when I hit a big bump but I don't know if it is the carrier or the rear d-rings.  I'm going to check it out this weekend.

Swingin is where it's at!   //no//

My wife hated opening the tire swing to open the tail gate,

so I had to upgrade to the Poison Spyder rear that attaches and opens with the tailgate,

and it's as easy as the refrigerator and

ABSOLUTELY NO RATTLES.  Uses a wedge to tighten the tire swing when it all closes.

What do they use to tighten it up to prevent shaking and rattling on the trail?

I found the rattle yesterday.  I didn't have one of the lock nuts tight on the double heim joint.  All is good.
