Anyone have a recommendation for rebuilding the 4l60e trans in my 2003 Tahoe? It slipped this morning from the 2nd to 3rd shift and then it jerked at red light causing it to roar in all gears. I am almost positive something broke in 1st gear and is slipping in the rest.

I use AAMCO now, for the warranty.
There are TONS of them available in the salvage yards.

I bought my rebuilt 4l60e from a guy on craigslist that rebuilds them. I have had zero issues with the transmission and have had it for more than a year. Also included a rebuilt torque convertor and swapped the rear output to a 4x4 for me for $550. 3 month warranty
I dont remember the guys number but I would start there.
AAMCO will try to charge 1500-2k to rebuild.

Maybe they're not all the same since they're independently owned, but a local AAMCO had to rebuild the transmission seven times on our old isuzu & that particular car was driven at most 4 thousand miles per year. The last time we had it rebuilt was 3 days past the warranty. They wouldn't honor it, but let me upgrade my warranty two more years (700 bucks) to cover the seventh rebuild //::)//. It still didn't drive right, but at least it didn't slip. If your AAMCO will use a Moveras reman transmission, you'll probably have a good outcome. For the cost of a shop, plus the "new"/reman transmission, I don't see it being worth it unless you just have extra cash. As others have said, you'd probably have better luck looking on CL.

Yeah I see a few Moveras manufactured transmission on the auto parts websites for around $1300. I am trying to see what discount I can get though a friends shop for one also. I am going to try and pull it this weekend.

Be very careful using AAMCO. Many horror stories out there from those guys.

I feel the same with any most large chain stores like that. Once they have your money they don't care, that or think you'll go to another store location & bother them. Good luck complaining. They'll play "pass the buck game".
A good independent shop will want to maintain a reputation that they are proud of. Probably take better care of their customers too.
Especially if they expect to remain open for more than a few months.
Word of mouth can get you a lot of potential clients or kill a small business.

AAMCOs are independent operators. Like anything else there are some good and done bad. The national warranty makes that a non issue. The guy on Lawrenceville came highly recommended to me and I have a great trust for him now.

I used mr transmission in lawrenceville and they were good plus had a 36 month warranty.

There its a place by the name of Gene's transmission in Paulding county. I personally would never consider taking any vehicle anywhere else. He has the best warranty with the best parts and the best price that I could find. Would be at least worth a call.
