Title: Tree services: Tops Industries
Post by: Skandalous on January 11, 2014, 09:10:53 AM
If anyone has any tree work needing to be done thats what I do.  Ive been doing it for others for a while and just started my own company.  No sense making money for someone else.  We are licensed, bonded, and insured.  Web site should be up and running in a few weeks as well.  Pass on the word :-)

Do/will you travel to the south side of the perimeter? I'm down in Henry County and I've got quite a few that need to be taken care of. I've got 5 or 6 very straight and VERY tall pines (they dwarf my 3 story house), 1 Poplar right next to my house, and about 5 or 6 nice sized oaks that need to be got. Let me know. I get a really good bonus check on Valentines day, so any time after that would be perfect... Or if you prefer to wait until it's a little warmer out that's cool too.

Thanks,
Kyle

Got you some work with a rail road? Which one? By the way I am not the biggest fan of that town. Worked one of the worst train derailments in my career there. Good luck up there

I'm in Aiken the next three weeks managing a horse show.  The trees that are down up here are crazy. That ice storm really did a number on this town.

Specifically were taking "hangers" from trees.  Mostly roads but its wherever the big boys tell us to go.

So my contractor says" Bring you, one more person, and your bucket and your good."  I called  //:bs// on this after the first day.  We did 15 "hanging"  limbs the first day cause we didn't get started till 4pm,  got 34 the next cause we had a better system and more time, called my brother to come help out cause he needs work and did 85 "hangers" the next 2 days with the extra man.  I streamlined a few things our DOT monitor was doing very slowly and brought in a 4th person and we broke the record for amount of "hangers" anyone in my 21 zones did by 24 with 135 "hangers".  Its pretty much the same thing over and over all day long but I certainly wont complain about the $$.  For anyone that doesn't know, a hanger is a limb that is, well,  hanging above a street that could fall and hurt a city mower or car passing by.  Wish I had gotten into this for myself a long time ago but as I said to Danny, better late then never.  Here are a few pics of what were doing,  over and over and over and over for the next 3 weeks  //CHAINSAW//.

This should give you a good idea what a hanger is.  Don't worry he wasn't going to cut that limb from there, I snapped it on his way up.   //LMAO//  You cant see it when the sun glares on it as it did in this pic but I put a GATR sticker on the inside of the upper boom.  Representin  //bluesbrothers//

Luckily we got placed in a honey hole of a zone and would hardly even see a single car pass by every 30 mins or so.

Had a blast working in SC for the last two and a half weeks.  Learned a ton and made a great start for my new business.  Aiken/Augusta is known for their trees and it was a lot of fun being able to work around such giants.  I'm talking 100+ year old oaks and pines that were 120+ feet.  Added some swag to the upper boom.  Gotta represent wherever I go  //salute//

(http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u509/cobra4909/20140308_203052_zps43adf982.jpg) (http://s1071.photobucket.com/user/cobra4909/media/20140308_203052_zps43adf982.jpg.html)

Found this beauty in the historical district of Edgeville. Just goes to show what a tree can live through.  Believe it or not it was still alive and kickin.

Gibson even came out for some of the action.  Such a good Log Dog.

Finished off Dougs lake house this week.  Took down something like 62 Pines and sweet gums.  Had a huge pile of logs left over.  Too bad burning pine sucks.  Firewood for months  //LMAO// My climber set his new person record for most trees climbed and dropped in a day with 38 on Monday.  Very proud of my crew, they got several very nice compliments from the neighbors and other contractors that stopped by.  Ive got more pics but they are on my real camera.

(http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u509/cobra4909/20140422_200934_zpsuootvgjz.jpg) (http://s1071.photobucket.com/user/cobra4909/media/20140422_200934_zpsuootvgjz.jpg.html)

Much thanks to Doug and his family for letting me and my crew stay at the lake house.  Absolutely perfect way to end a long hard days of cutting was sitting on the dock with a beer and cigar.  Very nice place you have there man.  Cant wait to get out on the water some day.

indeed although anything under 12" diameter is just pulp wood.  The bigger the better.  They are probably being picked up as we speak though.

So We had the privilege to remove a "specimen" size water oak this week.  It was over 250 years old and as much as I didn't want to take it down it was leaning heavily at a customers house.  Was alot of fun and the trunk will be recycled into coffee tables and end table.

I have a similar large water oak standing next to my house.  Large limbs hanging over my bedroom.  Will miss the shade but time for it to go along with several of its friends.  The last tree service I had in here dropped a tree on my house.  Luckily a small tree.  Lots of traveling the next few months but will contact you when ready.  You can't live here while you work but bring your fishing pole...... //;D//

Im out all day today running estimates.  Booked this week for cutting but have a slot open for next week atm.  Its ramping up again cause people wanna take care of their trees before another ice storm comes.  It IS gonna be a frigid winter this year.  Wyoming already has had almost a foot of snow in areas.

Started the Hot Boiled Peanuts this Sunday.  Got lots of lookers and only sold a few cups but everyone who wanted a cup of peanuts wanted tree work as well.  Who needs door knockers or canvassers when you can bring the clients to you instead  //letseat// //letseat//  We will be doing this just about every weekend so feel free to stop by and say hey.

On the furniture note,  Ive got a few pieces in the works ( slow going lots of sanding and coating, sanding and coating, oh and more sanding and coating ) but will be awesome when they are done.  One of the pieces we are working on is the stump I posted a picture of earlier ( the really big one ) which will end up as a coffee table to some lucky individual.  In october Im getting MY personal table from a 400yr old oak tree in Tucker.  ( thats what I bought the 880 for lol ).

Man thats a steal of a deal.  Almost too good to be true.  Wonder if its the home owner version or Pro.  Either way for an 880 thats a sick price.

Thomas, I'll be calling you today.

Here's the deal.  I have about a 1 acre lot in my neighborhood which about a third is wooded.  There is a buffer of large trees between my house and the neighbor behind me (actually in another neighborhood).  The neighbor (really nice folks) contacted me about a couple of my trees that is close to their house.  They didn't like the look of them and some tree guy called soliciting business and asked if they had any need for tree removal.  She had him come out and boom, he said "yep, those trees need to come down".  Go figure.

Now, if the trees really need to come down, I'm all for paying to have them removed.  But if the trees are healthy and she is just worried about them, I don't care if they're cut down but I'm not shelling out $950 to ease her worries - she can pay for it.

Really I think she initially just asked me if she could cut the trees and wasn't expecting me to pay for them.  I just didn't want to be a douchebag neighbor and expect someone else to take care of my property.

So, I'd like you to come out and tell me if they trees 'need' to come down or not.  Either way I'm 99% certainly they're coming down and since it's my property, I'll get to say who gets the job.   //cheers2//  I really want an honest opinion though.  If it is a 50/50 deal whether or not they should come down, maybe we'll just split the cost.

I'd also like an opinion on topping two trees that jussst nick my DirectV signal for one satellite.

Anyway, long winded but I'll give you a call today.

When I was 14, I started work at a lawn mower repair shop.  We were a Stihl (Homelite, Poulan, McCullough, Echo etc.) dealer (1977) and about every other brand under the sun.  I became a 2 cycle expert by the time I was 17.  When I quit college and moved to Raleigh, NC, I was a small equipment mechanic that transitioned into a heavy equipment mechanic that eventually transitioned into Parts and Service Manager.  One of the places I worked was at a Vermeer dealer in Cary, NC where I ran parts, service, and also did inside sales of stump grinders, brush chippers, and trenchers.  I even had my own stump grinding business that I did on the side for 3 years.
