Title: House Vandalized
Post by: prjohnson on February 18, 2014, 10:19:56 AM
In our nice quiet neighborhood a couple nights ago someone spray painted all sorts of satanic crap all over the garage. Really pisses me off that people have such a total lack of respect on something you work so hard on. My wife was scared to sleep in the house last night, on top of having to spend a hundred bucks on paint, take time off work to fix it. We've got a two year old & another one on the way, so money is already tight. I'm just so frustrated right now.

We live on a cul-de-sac, at the intersection of a dead end street; We know everyone on our area, all the cars, people, dogs... Yesterday, while painting, out of the corner of my eye I notice an unfamiliar car pulling down our street. When I turn around, there's a girl in the passenger seat looking up at the house, along with the driver laughing. Once our eyes met, they hauled ass down the dead end street. I wasn't 100% sure they were the person, so I just started closing my cans. A few min later, they drove back by & this time  the girl was hanging out the window giving me the finger. I ran to get the tag & they had tried to put a piece of paper on it, but half had come off. I was able to give a partial tag & the round about year, make & model (95/96 Camry LE).

Oh, I did try to catch up with them...& I did a police report.

I'm so pissed right now! I'll upload pictures in a little bit
Guess I should get back to painting  //:bs//

Man I am sorry to hear that. Things like this remind me that we have to work HARD at loving our neighbor, sometimes very hard.

crap.  sorry this happend.  last year my house was broke into they took PC's and 3 of my flatscreens and some Jewelry, the dog was bruised, and scared, never recovered the stuff, i now have a security system, cameras.   i pulled up and the house was open, garage door open, i knew something was wrong, as the dog was cowering in the cornoer of the garage, i got my 9m out.  lucky they where gone, or i would be telling a different story.

post the pics, we will keep an eye out.

Sorry to hear that! Hope they get caught. It sucks when people are so stupid and bored they have to go mess up other people's property. You need to have a shot gun against the garage door incase they drive back by. Show them how you really damage others property.

Man that pisses me off.......work hard for what you have
and some ass wipes do that! It's a shame people have to
buy security systems or out door cameras, nanny cams
and the like.

Sorry to hear that. I have a security alarm at the house. Also lower your home owners insurance when you get it. If interested, I can recommend someone.

Damn, I am sorry to see that and I hope your family can get over it...quickly.  After my burglary experience, I went months being concerned about leaving the house vacant while on trips, going to work, or even running errands.  Over time I have become more relaxed, but the thought still pops up from time-to-time.

I wouldn't follow Bobby's guidance (despite my belief those bastards should pay in a second degree murder manner)...that will just hurt you more by having you go to court, or worse, jail, if you are successful.

I was burglarized last year.  I filed a claim...net-net it probably didn't pay off to file since they raised my rate by ~$600/year and other insurance companies will not insure the house if a claim had been filed within 3 years.  Dirty damn business going on unless you lose everything.

Yup. Pisses me off as well. You know I had my sub stolen out of the carport so I know how you feel. I now have motion lights and motion detector alarms setup. Good idea to get those as the lights will most likely scare them off but the alarm will wake you up and then it's go time. I've already made it well know to the cops I know locally that I will be shooting with no questions asked. They agreed  //;D//

Just absolutely stupid.  Really sucks for you and your wife.  I don't blame her for feeling uncomfortable, it is a very eery feeling to be violated like that.

Shows just how pathetic the people that did this to you house really are...they came back to look at it again.  Cowardly and pathetic.  Hope the police can find them.

happened to a friend of mines neighbor a few months back, except it was all antisemetic messages painted on the house. Kid even doused the yard and house with gasoline, but luckily it never spread to the house. Turned out to be a methhead kid who thought the guy somehow wronged him, guy didn't even know the kid and wasn't jewish.

I'm sorry to hear that this happended to you. It sucks when you have something taken from you, but it REALLY sucks when something is taken from your loved ones, especially if you can't control it.

I feel for you and your family. Though this really angers me and I would love for someone to shoot them, myself being one of them, I know they must have issues. Noone who is raised right would do this. That tells me they have problems at home or they have not so good parental figures. Hopefully they will get caught, arrested, and possibly learn their lesson?

If you or your family need anything don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say this.

You will go to jail for a warning shot if a DA has some agenda. They will say it was attempt since you were not in fear of your life. To shoot, you must be without doubt have a "feeling" that you are in fear of being killed. Be careful.

I honestly hope I'm never in the situation where I feel my life, or my families lives are in danger. That being said, I'm a regular at the local gun range & have my collection of guns. For home protection I have my Ruger 9, but also have some hunting rifles & a double barreled shotgun. My wife knows how to handle all of them except for the shotgun. If it ever came down to it & those punks feel the need to take things further, we're 100% ready.
I do think this was totally random & our house being white up on a hill would make it a prime target.

Didn't mean to ignore you, it's been a busy day. Nothing has happened that would have led to that. These are local kids within walking distance. Why us? Who knows....Maybe the pirate flag on the house, or maybe just because it was an opportunity. I just hope it isn't some psycho going after my first born. There's crazy folks out there & I wouldn't put anything past 52% of people out there. I have a gut feeling they'll end up busted. Maybe not for this house, but another.

Might be something as small as you cutting them off in traffic and didn't notice them follow you home. It's pretty random that they picked your house out of every other house around.

I've had my apartment broken into when I was in my 20's, it ruins your feeling about being home.

Sorry you and your family is going through this.  Don't pull your gun in this situation, its not worth it.  The partial match, car description, and locale will probably end of catching them if the police have time to follow up on your report, or if the punks keep it up.

Bummer man.  Sorry to see this.  I'm down in Smyrna if you need any help painting or whooping @ss.

If you haven't already might be worth installing an motion light outside the house as well.

They spray painted the same stuff on a privacy fence, along with a stop & speed limit sign in a different part of the neighborhood. Every member of the HOA got an email regarding this last night. There's a lot of folks on there to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. I installed a camera with motion detection, so any movement will send me an email. So far I've gotten pictures of the neighbors dog shitting in my yard, a couple cats & what I think might be a coyote. The detective called yesterday evening for the tag/make model of the car. Hopefully I'll have some good updates to share soon.

I've just got to figure out how to get that cam to quit giving me false alarms. It picks up when the lady across from me turns on her porch light. I swear she's out there smoking every hour on the dot until 1 A.M.

http://foscam.us/products.html

This is the exact one I bought off a friend for 30 bucks. It's an indoor camera, but I was able to position it at a window that gives me a pretty good view of most of the front yard.

http://www.amazon.com/Foscam-FI9821W-Indoor-Wireless-Camera/dp/B00AJWK5WW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392816416&sr=8-1&keywords=Foscam+F9821W

I'm looking for a permanent solution for a few outdoor cams, but we're putting out house on the market in April (not because of this), So I really don't want to spend a lot of money on one since I'll likely just let it go with the house.

I have a nightowldvr system on my house, currently at 12 cameras but can go to 16. Has a huge hd, so it records everything. I can specify zones where I don't want motion triggers, such as a neighbors house. I can view all cameras remotely on my phone, iPad, or computer. Works great. I did bust he mail lady smashing into my trash can, and got footage of the neighbor driving her car into my neighbors pool. All cameras are wired and I have 1 pan and tilt cam as well on an automatic sweep

Damn, Josh, that is bad ass.  I'm too lazy and too fat to wire everything, but a few cameras would be nice to have.  Did you outsource the installation?  If so, what is a rough dollar amount for that setup, including installation?

As for the old lady and pool, here is the video from that. Luckily her door was open or she would have died. Car sunk quick. This was the same day that white water caught fire a few years ago. Neighbors got a new pool. Luckily my wife was not there as she was supposed to be in the pool that day, but was home taking care of me after i crushed my shoulder on a dirt bike incident. Even more amazon, the lady missed the house and a tree by inches on both sides, i couldn't do that sober in reverse.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5HH3AvS0NA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5HH3AvS0NA)

I started with an old computer adding 2, 4 port dvr cards.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PCI-DVR-4CH-Channel-Security-Camera-Video-Capture-Card-/111168555248?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item19e22988f0 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PCI-DVR-4CH-Channel-Security-Camera-Video-Capture-Card-/111168555248?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item19e22988f0)

Had 8 cameras running on that system, but the footage was laggy and i wasn't very happy with the interface. Just like the video in the video above.

I ran those cameras with the cheap cables and power supplies that they came with. Video quality was ok, mainly due to the crappy cables carrying the signal, plus i had 8 power supplies to contend with.

Finally I got a night owl dedicated dvr system. Originally these were very expensive, but came down in price and quality went up big time. The one i purchased is similar to this newer unit.

http://www.amazon.com/Night-Owl-Security-LTE-DVR16-16-Channel/dp/B009KG8Q1K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1392827432&sr=8-3&keywords=Night+Owl+Dvr (http://www.amazon.com/Night-Owl-Security-LTE-DVR16-16-Channel/dp/B009KG8Q1K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1392827432&sr=8-3&keywords=Night+Owl+Dvr)

I just made sure it had real time video, and a hard drive installed. It kind of acts like its own server, so it does it all, and like I said, I can view everything remotely, and even set up email, to get notified of any activity.

I purchased siamese cable,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BLACK-1000FT-BULK-RG59-SIAMESE-CABLE-20AWG-18-2-CCTV-SECURITY-CAMERA-WIRE-/121037255411?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item1c2e61f2f3 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BLACK-1000FT-BULK-RG59-SIAMESE-CABLE-20AWG-18-2-CCTV-SECURITY-CAMERA-WIRE-/121037255411?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item1c2e61f2f3)

Stay away from using cable like this, the video quality really does suffer
http://www.ebay.com/itm/100ft-CCTV-Siamese-Security-Camera-Video-Power-BNC-RCA-Cable-with-Connector-/370996006628?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item566115cee4 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/100ft-CCTV-Siamese-Security-Camera-Video-Power-BNC-RCA-Cable-with-Connector-/370996006628?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item566115cee4)

connectors, to connect the cable to the camera and to the dvr (you need two for each camera line)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BNC-Male-to-RCA-Female-Connector-for-CCTV-Siamese-cable-wholesale-lots-lot-/181246292223?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2a331ef0ff (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BNC-Male-to-RCA-Female-Connector-for-CCTV-Siamese-cable-wholesale-lots-lot-/181246292223?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2a331ef0ff)

and started getting higher quality cameras off of Ebay, Sony 1/3 ccd, night vision, etc.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW700TVL-Sony-Effio-OSD-195ft-Outdoor-Bullet-Surveillance-CCTV-Security-Camera-/291002802017?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item43c11e5f61 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW700TVL-Sony-Effio-OSD-195ft-Outdoor-Bullet-Surveillance-CCTV-Security-Camera-/291002802017?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item43c11e5f61)

My neighbor is good with wiring and I learned how to solder really well during this project.
Instead of using individual camera power supplies, i picked up a 16 bank power supply box, so I only have one plug into the house, and can wire each camera to the box instead of separately. Much nicer and cleaner install.

Similar to this, i got it on ebay pretty cheap

http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-Channel-CCTV-Security-Camera-Power-Supply-Box-12-V-DC-16-CH-New-/120980671332?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item1c2b028b64 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-Channel-CCTV-Security-Camera-Power-Supply-Box-12-V-DC-16-CH-New-/120980671332?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item1c2b028b64)

I bought mine used, its a lil dented, but does the job and i maybe paid $16 for it.

It is pretty easy to do. You can add the dvd, and a camera or two easily, then expand as needed.

It took a little trial and error to figure out where I wanted to place the cameras, but I now have every angle of the outside, including the front door covered.

My main reason for doing this is that my office is in the basement with no windows, and I get a lot of deliveries for work, so I wanted to see when the delivery guy was here.

Then we had some druggies stealing christmas packages from houses during the season, so that bolstered my reasoning. I have room for 4 more cameras, might do one or two in the kitchen to watch the dogs while I am out.

I am lazy and fat too, but got this one done //BEER//

pool wall was damaged beyond repair, pool leaked out that day. Plus where the rear of the car hit it shifted the concrete slab back about 4 inches. All new pool and concrete deck, along with fencing. Wrecker came out, i loaned my snorkel gear to them to get in and hook up the car. They lifted it out and when high enough dragged the car out. That ended up ruining the other side of the pool.
In the vid you can see her door hit the diving board and keep the door open, that is what saved her, otherwise she would have drowned. Unfortunately she died last year, nice old lady, but should not have been at the wheel of a vehicle. That car was brand new as she had just totaled one couple weeks beforehand. She lost her license after that incident.

That video is crazy   //:o//  It sucks that you likely missed the swim season. Last year a tree fell in our pool & took two months to get everything back to normal.

The owl seems like a decent setup for the price. I'm considering the light version.
