Title: New helper
Post by: kent10sne1 on April 02, 2014, 08:38:30 AM
Got this from Harbor  yesterday, petty solid, I wish I could drill a hole to make this more flush with the back of the jeep..  the pin , hole needs to be more in.   anyone have one of these, 70 bucks
seems solid, suppose to hold up to 500 pounds.

You can drill a new hole, I did. Just slide it in to the desired location and mark the new hole on both sides.

I love mine. I use it alot. Only issue was that hole. I did not like how far out it sat. Didnt help with the leverage either.

I had one of these. The only issue I had was I loaded a suit case on the side of the exhaust and it melted a hole in it. Apparently, there's a lot of heat coming out of that exhaust pipe lol.

I have one. Love it but needs support under the sides when loaded. It moves left and right under loads. And yes, the pin issue... needs to be closer to the jeep rahter than farther away. But great for coolers, chairs etc. Now that I have my trailer it just sits in the shed.

Love mine. Just drill a new hole in it like Matt suggested. Real easy to do

Been thinking about getting one and mounting it in the spare tire holder on the back of the LJ.
That would put it about level with the top of the tub for me.

When you mount a spare, you'll want to have it sticking out as far as possible for the taller items to clear.

What is the capacity of the aluminum one they have a killer deal on every now and then?

500lbs, but I would not trust the longevity of it versus the steel ones.  Plastic corners hold the sides together.

There is one at NT that is cheaper, but I would likely pass on it and get the HF one:

That is the one I used when I didn't have the trailer.  I have used it a lot and been happy.  Got mine for 40$
