Title: Atlanta to Valdez Alaska
Post by: JeepSh on April 04, 2014, 05:51:40 PM
Roughly 80 hours of driving.

7 days / 11.5 hours of driving.

2 hours to deploy camp.

2 hours of driving breaks.

And still get 8 hours of sleep.

Can it be done, there and back with a family of four. I think so, let the planning begin.

Don't forget to pack adderall. That's a lot of focused driving.

Two drivers per vehicle makes it less of a burden.

Yes, it can be done!  It seems rushed considering all of the great stuff between Atlanta and Alaska.  I would slow down and make the trip about the journey and the destination, not just the destination.

Rough goal is to spread it out to a 3 week trip. The original estimate was too aggressive, Agreed. Life in General is not a destination but a journey. :)

That kind of leave of absence won't work too well for my career.

Spend a few days in British Columbia.

You can do it! Just a heads up going through the border was the scary part. If anyone going has had a DUI they will not let you in Canada. You can NOT take a hand gun with you no semiautomatic rifles. Only pump and bolt action rifles. You will also have to get passport ID's just a passport card is all you need for everyone going about $50.00 each get started on them now! You will fine gas about every 300miles in Canada and it's expensive $4.00 a liter and sometimes $5.00 a liter. Trust me if your getting 350miles to a tank they know your coming$$$$ It will be a memory of a life time! The things you will see and the people you will meet. I highly recommend taking top of the world highway. DO NOT TAKE (DESTRUCGION BAY)!!!! It is 198kilometers of nothing but dirt road and frost heaves. You will be going a long at 65 and all of the sudden the road falls out from under you and you bottom out. If you look for the gouges in the road where the trailer jacks from peoples trailers bottom out you can slow down some but you will still bounce pretty good!   //SLAMIN//

Mike, when can you go again? Madison and I would love to ride one way and pay expenses, pump grease, and spread the smell of hit burgers from here to there.

Chik-Fila Smells the best! 5 Guys burgers not so good. //LMAO// Anything smalls better then Diesel. I don't know when I'll get to take a trip like that again. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I gave up my job to have 2 months Jun and July in Alaska. It took us 6 months from the time we got the bus till we left Jun 1st to get everything ready. We took MRE's with us and they worked out good for a quick meal.

I'm down for that. What we 'ed pay to rent it would be offset by gas money, our charm and southern spirit will score us some free oil.
