Title: Vinyl wrapping
Post by: DudeNiceH2 on May 08, 2014, 12:33:41 PM
Does anyone here have experience with this or have wrapped their vehicle? I'm wrapping mine next week and want to know what to expect as far as difficulty.. Thanks

No experience.  I can't put a logo on without a bubble lol.
I know I would let an experienced pro do it so it looks like it was painted.
Most sign shops do them now.

If I paid a shop to do it I might as well just get a paint job

I assumed if you getting a wrap its a custom rad set of graphics that would very expensive to paint.

Are you wrapping your vehicle in a solid color vinyl?

A small car like a Mini looks pretty easy, but something huge like an H2...not so much.

I would buy the correct tools and not cheap out on it.

Good luck with this activity.  I am interested in a report and some pictures.

Have you bought the wrap yet? A friend of mine won the Ultimate Jeeper contest at jeep beach a few weeks back. He has a $650 gift certificate at activegrafix.com he is looking to sell for $400

Need before and after, but even then it will be difficult to see the quality of your workmanship.

What does thou think about the results?  That's the only opinion that should matter...well, if your single.

Damn, that looks good. You guys obviously have skills I don't possess. I can't even get my GATR decals on without having a bubble in there somewhere.

Thanks! One of my guys actually came over and did mine for me. He has a bunch of special tools for applying it. The most time consuming part was cleaning it completely and removing the body panels.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this. Works been killer this week.
Sorry to disappoint fellas, but I ended bailing on the vinyl. I ended up throwing about 30ft of wrap in the dumpster.

It's incredibly difficult to do it correctly and without bubbles. I just ended up painting it with plasti dip. That's what you see on the hummer

Well that sucks.  //:'(//

However, if anyone wants to get it done, and feels like making the trip to Columbus, my guy can definately hook it up. All he asks is that you pay for the vinyl. He charged me just over $200 to get the fenders and the grill done, and obviously does a bang up job.
Now, I just need to find someone with a plotter to cut some graphics on the left over vinyl I've got sitting in the garage.

I have applied vehicle graphic/vinyl and the key was always making sure everything was cleaned with alcohol prior and then misting with water while applying. And not doing it in direct sun. You'll always get some bubbles but there are ways to pop em and squeegee the bubble out. Minor ones will dissipate once they sit in the sun. I have worked at Sign shops and have had my share of vinyl applications. I am glad I don't do that for a living anymore. Selling steel is so much easier.
