Title: Best lift for rock crawling
Post by: OscarMike2.0 on August 20, 2014, 09:14:59 PM
I currently have a 2.5 inch arb old man emu lift with fox shocks with xrc armor fenders. I am about to upgrade my tires to 37s and am considering a bigger lift for more room to flex those big tires. I was thinking 5.5 Rock Krawler coils with there longest travel shocks they offer with there mid arm control arms (exact same length as stock just made by rockkrawler) but wasnt sure if buying factory replacement control arms is worth it and should i just wait till I can afford there 3 link long arm kit.

Flat fender flares or the full stock ones?

5.5" is a lot of lift for 37's especially with flat flares.  A number of us run 37's on 3.5 RK coils and flat flares with plenty of room.

my opinion... no way in heck would I go 5.5" with your 2.5 you can go 37's with flat/cut flares. Just bump stop it properly and go with it. The stock arm length on a JK is almost as long as a mid arm on a TJ. Unless you plan on something way extraordinary, a long arm kit could be considered overkill.

Just my opinions and others may disagree.

I agree. Jeep lengthened the CA's on the JK's a good bit and the ride quality and performance changed for the better. No need for a long arm kit unless you just really want to go up that high, but like mentioned there is no need and it'll raise your COG enough to feel it when wheeling. LA's don't drag in the parking lots though.

3.5" Rock Krawler and 37's will flex perfect. You only going to flex so far aways due to brake lines and ABS lines and drive shaft angles with the skid plates

Prefect combo that fits in the garage.  Bump stops and proper shocks and you have an extremely capable daily driver.

I ran 40s with the 5.5 with plenty of room but dont recommend it without long arms due to the angles.

We have a member on 42s on the 5.5.

The arms are not the exact same length as stock when installed with a lift.   When properly adjusted, they keep the axle properly postioned or extended up to an inch for clearance.
