My K5 does not currently have a jack for changing tires. I know most everyone uses high lift jacks but my question is this...do I really need one? Would a bottle jack and a couple blocks of wood not work just as good? Also, If it is in my best interest to go ahead and get the high lift jack where do I place the jack to change a tire if the cituation arrises? I have a 89K5 Blazer with stock bumpers and currently no lift. Any help would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

I would at lest keep a bottle jack with you and enough blocks to life it 24" or more. You could use a hi-lift jack but you would have to come up with ways of using it where it would work on you rig. //popcorn//

I'm with Mr Mike...bottle jack placed under an axle is sufficient for tire change up to a very large size (35" for sure and bigger if you use a wood block).
Hi-lift jacks can be very dangerous and are usually not the best tool for any of the multiple functions they can perform.

I don't see a good place to lift your blazer with a high lift. Usually they are lifted from the rock sliders or heavy duty bumpers.

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided to go with the bottle jack after talking to yall and a few other people. Very greatful for all the info.

I take both with me a bottle and hi lift jack. Like the others have said unless you have jacking points that is stout enough to support your vehicle a hi lift is useless. I know first hand they are dangerous if you aren't careful. You should also be careful using a bottle jack with blocks, I would recommend getting a taller jack and if you must use blocks make sure to get something with wide and solid base.

The jeep factory bottle jack can lift an axle with 35s off the ground without blocks. If I had the room, I would get the SWAG Off-road (I think that is the brand) and weld on the axle cups to the bottle jack.
