In your opinion, was the innkeeper who let Mary and Joseph stay in his stable a good guy or a greedy person who thought the couple beneath his notice? Here's a perspective from a financial analyst who's blog I follow:

Now that is deep... I believe that was left out of the bible just because it will allow you to think with an open heart. It allows you to see the good or the bad depending on your spiritual placement at the time of reading. Just another example of "free will".

I think we are looking at this too deeply. The point of Jesus being born in a stable along side the animals is that they were sacrificed as offerings to God, and Jesus later in life was the ultimate sacrifice for all of mankind's sins.
He was born into nothing, lived most of his life with out nothing & died on a cross with out nothing.
