Title: Amethyst mine off if Charlie's creek?
Post by: Cannonballkev on December 31, 2014, 09:13:57 AM
Anybody know where it's at?  Anyone been?
A trail ends at a campsite with a big mudhole , drive across the river , and there is another trail there.  Is it down that trail, if so how far?
Thanks

Yes, trail is ok, all sides of trail are illegal.

Ends at a creek that is clearly blocked and illegal to cross.  The trail on the other side is short and a dead end.

Forest service has camera up and have been sending letters and citations.

Who is talking about this location? I have a feeling who....

Ok, thanks.  I was asking where the actual mine is at.  Not to dig or take anything, just to go see it.
So, trail across river is where it's at?
Nothing was blocking getting across the river.  But we didn't go any further.
Might hike in this weekend

Those fine dotted line trails other that the App. Trail look to all be hiking trails.  Unfortunately there aren't that many jeep trails up there in that area.

We've found stills and caves in n ga but never an abandoned mine.  If you find one let us know, but I'm not going in.

I spoke with a ranger in preparation for our ride and he said they are using trail cameras and they are issuing citations.  He would not elaborate.

10-4 captain.. must have been pretty recent.. they usually save the cams for food plots n stuff like that was the only reason i was wondering.
