I am in the process of switching out my JK bumpers now. I am planning to do a heavy duty Crawler Conceptz tire carrier that attaches to the tailgate and want a small bumper without a carrier. Does anyone have any suggestions on bumpers that I may have missed? I don't want to run without a bumper.

If you ever plan to tow something then the crawler concepts rear bumper looks like your best bet. Low profile with a hitch receiver.

That's the way I'm leaning. I don't really have anything to tow, but I will house my backup camera there and like the option if I ever get a trailer.

Ehh, don't really like the look. Metalcloak has something similar.

It's like CC stole the CAD drawings when they left PSC. With that said, I'd be inclined to support small biz over 4WP.
When I tried to climb a big rock at Hale, I'm sure glad I had a heavy duty rear bumper. My rig slid about 4' off of the rock right down on the shack tabs and hitch. Not sure what shape it would be in if it was aluminum. Also glad the tire carrier didn't hit.

I just got off the phone with VKS. Vick is planning to have a prototype for a small rear bumper within a month. Looks like I will have to hold out to see the design.

Lots of interesting information around that situation. Im okay with supporting either, but usually go with small business.
Agreed on steel as my only option

another option

We sell a lot of JCR stuff & it is all beautiful!!
-
Yeah, that's a nice looking bumper.
-
Just thought I throw another option in the mix, I run the Standard from Rusty Offroad

Never seen another JK with it. It sits flush against the end of the frame rails and tapers up at the ends to meet the corner of the tub. Really light too and doesn't break the bank.
-
EVO rear with shackle mounts in frame.

Here is a homemade bumper I came across and really like(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/01/3d7075c9550ca4345c006eadd980d59e.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/01/2cef0890a1722b8c1c9a0168700f81ab.jpg)

I found another bumper that I like. Made by savvy, I'm not sure about adding a hitch, but I like the clearance and higher mount.
-
Savvy makes really good, well fitting, stuff.
- Torg

That savvy bumper is sweet

I'm still waiting to see what Vick comes up with, but this is definitely one that I'm thinking about
-
i like the homemade bumper that Jay posted better than any of the others, but custom bumpers take a lot of time, and time usually = money.
-
If the production bumper Vick is coming out with is anything like the one on his rig it will be nothing short of beautiful. I'm a sucker for dimple died parts so that may be why I like it. Plus each dimple gives you an additional 5hp.

I agree! Any welders here have time? Let me know price!

Yeah, I hope he does one soon! I'm not sure how long I can go without a rear bumper.
-
Go check out the bumper on Scott's JK at SBC.

Is it custom? No pics online somewhere?

Yes it's custom. Go to abc' Facebook page and look in their pictures. It's a good ways down in ther

New vks shorty bumper is pretty bad ass and my favorite option so far. He is also doing a prerunner rear that should be ready next week. I'll finally be ready to pull the trigger once I see it.
This one is 28lbs, steel

Any plans for a spare tire?
I'm enjoying no spare and was considering not running one, but the wifey doesn't like the look as much. The plan will be to add a tailgate carrier from Teraflex of Crawler Conceptz or convince her that it looks good without it.

Yeah, I'll definitely keep a spare, but would be fine running it in the back. Also, I could still run our aluminum cargo tray when I need to carry more.
I didn't know this.
Also cutting into the rear crossmember limits my rear suspension upgrade choices.

Have you tried putting the 37 in the rear with 36 children?

I know i need my 2/3 seat down. I meant that I'll only put it in the back for wheeling trips. If I'm traveling out of town with the kids, we take her pilot.
-
The 37 requires the regular rear seat to be flat? I've never tried but almost did on this last trip to Moab.

yes

That rear bumper looks good.

yes
So we ned to build a JK tire holder that clamps to the cage, rests on the floor, allows the rear seat to be up, and carries the spare inside at a 60 degree or so angle...
-
I've been looking at a few ideas for this. I'll see if I can find some old pics. I've got a useless bracket from the third row seat, so I thought about trying to integrate an angled carrier. If you take out the storage cover, the bottom of the tire and sit in there to help with view.
-
They already make a carrier like that. Trying to find a picture of it now
-
Here were some of the ballpark ideas that I came across when searching. But I'd want to take advantage of the bracket already mounted in the jeep. I think it would be pretty cool to make something that uses pins and can be removable.

This just got posted on JKO. Too pricey for me, but looks like the idea we were going for.
