How far in fractions of inch/inchs or number of threads do you think a heim joint should be screwed in to be safe and durable?
-
Half of what is available?
-
Does that include the jam nut?
If the available amount is 1/2 inch then a 1/4 inch of the thread is enough?
If the available amount is 2 inches then a 1 inch of the thread is enough or is that over kill?

I'm speaking of a properly made joint and threaded stud. The length should always be a factor of the diameter, so that half is always strong enough. A 1/2" total should be small load and fine threads.
More info please?

If you followed some of that link guidelines, it would be the length of the nut plus 2 threads on the inside.

I've always heard 1" threaded in to a weld in bung before the jam nut. Now with my lowers I pushed the front a little bit more forward and I know I don't have 1" in the bung. It'll work until I can build new lowers later on.
1/2 the length of the threaded stud should be a good rule of thumb. What joint only has 1/2" of threads?!

7/8 diameter heim joints on the track bar. I have 13/16 of the 2 inch long shaft in the bung NOT including the jam nut.

I'd run it.

On that size, me too. Loctite on the jam nut?
