Title: House Break-in
Post by: BeerIAm on April 28, 2015, 10:28:44 PM
So some effers broke into my house today while I was at work.  Apparently pulled right up in front of my house, one guy stayed in the car and the other busted a window and came in.  Dumped my drawers in the bedroom probably looking for some heat, pills or wanted to sniff my underwear.  Fortunately my neighbor heard something and came outside.  When the guy in the car saw her he started honking and the dude inside ran out.  They only got away with my wife's computer.

Good thing is that no one was home so no one got hurt.  My wife is freaked now so we need to get a security system.  Bad news for me is that I was looking to get a bumper and winch and now there goes my budget for that.  Sh!t pisses me off.

Good thing they didn't find my stash of Jeep parts...

Actually they probably wouldn't have known what to do with them.

It sucks...went through it a couple of years ago.

You may go through a period where you don't want to leave the house without someone there, but you have to get back on with life.

If you file insurance, be aware that other insurance companies will not pick you up for another 3 years and your current company will likely raise your rate significantly.  They claim that a house that has been burglarized once will likely be burglarized again.

1.  You should have an alarm and it's more important than a bumper

2.  Get a dog.

I will admit...it was a little hard to go to sleep last night...

We are having someone come out to give us a quote on the alarm today.  So that will be good.  Had talked about it before but haven't had much trouble in the neighborhood in the 11 years we've been here.  Maybe they were inspired by the riots in Baltimore.

We do have a dog.  She was locked up in a part of the house where most of our electronics are.  They stayed out of that room.  She is a little too calm though so I'm not sure if she barked at all.

Sorry to hear you went through that. Glad no one was hurt and it was a minor loss or stuff. It's a shame when stuff like this happens. Why people feel they have to resort to stealing is beyond me.

bummer,  What part of town are you in? Some alarm companies will wire you for free. In the City of Atlanta we have to register so they can ticket us for false alarms. I have been tempted to disconnect from the service and just have the Alarm, the cops always show up after the thieves have left anyways. You should check out some of the computer/web based systems.

FrontPoint security has been good for us. Wireless sensors so no wires to run. Modern system with smartphone apps for arming and disarming.

Bummer man. Hearing this stuff gets my blood boiling. I had my suburban stolen out of my carport a few years back and since then it really made me realize how ill prepared I was. We have an alarm system on the house but did not have any external measures. I now have a motion light with the brightest bulbs you could find on the house and also a dropcam setup in the carport to view 24hrs a day. It sends you a push notification when motion is detected and to me that is worth every penny! Nice to have it up at work in the corner of my monitor to view while at work. So to me I would get a home security system first and then some cameras up.

I freakin hate a thief more than anything...especially a POS that would come in to another persons home.

Sorry to hear this.

This guy. He did my system and a great guy. I have had mine from him for almost 2 years now. Phone app and a lot of options.

Thanks guys for the information.  My wife has a guy coming out today to talk to us about the wireless security stuff.  Depending on how that goes will reach out to Kerry.  Definitely thought that it would never happen to us so wasn't prepared at all for it.  Still just glad no one was home.

I have been in a pissy mood all day.  Need to go grab me a beer or 3.

I'm in Smyrna.  Based on what the cops told me yesterday that the alarm sound is really the best.  They may still break the window but if the alarm goes off they will typically take off.  There was actually a sticker on the window that they broke which said protected from Brinks (from the previous owner).  They still broke the window and since no alarm went off, they came on in.
