Title: Where can I find the VIN on a postal jeep??
Post by: LUVNMY06TJ on July 28, 2015, 07:44:20 PM
Here's my situation. I've got an old postal jeep (a spare) I picked up and am trying to scrap. The scrap yards require a vehicle to have a VIN in order to purchase. I am unable to find a VIN. Locations I've checked are the dash (plate has been removed, the firewall (data plate has also been removed). I did some searching on the Google and was informed the VIN is also stamped on the top of the frame on two places on the passenger side (above the rear axle and above the rear leaf spring hang point (sorry don't know the technical term for that). Any help on locating the VIN would be great. Any help with other options is great as well. I am able to make out the old postal number for when the truck was in service and I'm going to contact the postal service tomorrow to see if they can help.

Just curious is the jeep still salvageable at all?

Cut it in half before you scrap it and take it in two separate trips. Let me send you a PM...

That would be a good idea except all of my tools to do that are already moved to NC.

It certainly would! I'm actually planning a build on one that I have. This one was a spare I picked up in the deal with my other one.

Yes. As Will mentioned they are on the forum. Here's the link: http://www.gatrailriders.com/GTRForums/index.php?topic=13936.0 (http://www.gatrailriders.com/GTRForums/index.php?topic=13936.0)

Sorry I'm just now getting back on here. I've spent all day working on collecting the rest of my things to move and preparing scrap aside from aforementioned postal jeep. My plan is to take it (the postal jeep) to a place here in town tomorrow that tells me they will buy it for scrap. They buy old vehicles, kinda like a pick a part. If someone is interested I need to know tomorrow, preferably before noon. If someone is interested they can also call me: 443-340-7623. I'll also check back on here tomorrow before taking it.
