Looking to buy optics for my AR this year and wanted to get some feedback. I know the top brands and the hefty price tags that come with it but what about some mid level offerings? Vortex, bushnell? Alot out there to choose from. Currently running magpul flip ups and no issues but want a red dot style look thru as well.

I have no knowledge of scopes. The last one I owned came on my Marlin .22 rifle. :)
I bought my AR from a buddy and it has an EoTech holographic site. It works great all the way to the back of the range. I'm an okay shot but look like a expert marksman with the AR.
You looking to go hundreds of yards?

For optics, what are you planning using the rifle for. CQB or distance shooting. For anything under 100 yards my personal preference would be an Aimpoint, but there are several other red dot or holographic sights that are just as good. If you're looking for magnification there are several other options available, Vortex, Trijicon, Nikon, Bushnell, and Night Force.
For the better quality you can expect to pay $350 up to $2000. Unless you can get a great deal on a used EoTech, Aimpoint, or Trijicon, I wouldn't buy an optic below $300. The way to look at it is, are you willing to bet your life that it might work?
Just to give you an example on glass prices, my scope was $200 more than my .308 rifle cost.

Just remember if your using the AR for home protection and you have a battery powered optic that battery may be no good when you need it. I am putting a 1x4x24 on my full size new AR and a Vortec Sparc II on my SbR

Not in it for distance. 100yds is about as far as I need o go.
