The wife is looking at Subaru Outbacks and I have no experience with them so I thought I would ask if y'all have any thoughts on the boxer engine.
Thanks.

Boss man has a couple of them and loves them. Can't say or advise to much on the engines because I've not had a chance to do any work on them. I know he hasn't had a minutes trouble out of them.

Are you wanting specific experience with that engine design or general Subaru experience?

Thanks I know subies are supposed to be good vehicles I just don't have any 1st hand experience with them. I told her driving a truck or a jeep, was sexy as hell but she didn't buy it. She keeps going back to Outbacks and Crosstreks.
I've been perusing the Subaru forums and I just want to make sure I'm not getting into any thing with bad issues. I know they went thru a redesign and it's not like it's. Chevy or Ford or hell a Toyota, I know what to expect more or less with those. I just haven't owned any Subarus so I'm not as astute or should I say versed with them.

Wife owns a 2015 Subaru Outback with the 4 banger. Put 15k miles on it so far with no issues. Drives great. Was a nice balance between a car and SUV. Only thing I'd reconsider is getting the 6 cylinder. Other than that no major complaints. The keyless entry system is quirky but it could be me...

One of my good friends has an 2015 Outback and he likes it and has never had any problems out of it.

I've only owned 1 Subbie (08 STi) and it was a great car. Traded it in on my 09 Rubicon.

My first car was a 1982 Subaru GL 4 door sedan

I personally have never owned a Subaru, but I do have friends with them. One with 216k miles on the clock and the other with ~140k. Both 4-cyl, both still running strong. The nice thing about Subaru's is they don't change all that much drivetrain wise so there are tons of interchangeable parts year-to-year. I do have experience with the EG-33 (6-cyl) and that is a nice powerplant. Only thing I will say is like any boxer engine, can have some oiling issues when you get up there in the lateral g's. It powers this little monster in the picture. Front of a Subaru SVX drivetrain in the back of the car.
