Title: Mountain snow run
Post by: Krawler00 on January 22, 2016, 12:27:21 PM
I am watching this weather and depending on what happens I might head north for some snow fun. Anybody want to make a day of it? Not 100% on this yet but just throwing it out there.  //popcorn//

Looked at the thread about snow and I guess that would be the one you are telling me to see. This is a bit more to the point. So by tonight we can have a definite plan set and list of riders. Watching and hoping for the white stuff.

I haven't been home all week, but the girlfriend (Connie) says that we have 4-6" of snow.  I live about 4 miles from the back entrance to Charlie's Creek. I'm headed home now up 515

Sounds like a plan. We closed the restaurant and I could head up today. I asked my wife to go ahead and leave work eailer. I hope she did as she works downtown.

Ben, let me know as I'm right up the road from you.

Let's make sure it's snow and not a sheet of ice. I am game

I will continue to post up thru the day and tonight. Like Bobby said, if it turns out to be a sheet of ice you can forget it. Getting up there would be the hardest part of it all. I know some good roads we can hit in helen or Dahlonega so we have choices.

My Jeep is not rode worthy at the moment or i would consider it.  Stay as far away as you can from Tray Mtn, there will be a thousand Jeeps up there all weekend.

The four inches I have left here in hiawassee after the rain, is pure slush!  Knock someone out with a snowball.  If temp drops below freezing, them it snows it's gonna be solid ice under the new snow.  There was no snow down low until you pass the high school in town, headed towards Clayton.

Just a heads up

People must have stayed home or it hasn't hit any farther south as the Atlanta map still looks 90% green which usually doesn't happen on the nicest of Fridays.
I made it from Dunwoody to Kennesaw in 35 minutes at 4:30 pm (departure).

I think a lot left early because offices were closed early and schools were letting out early and there were no after school programs.

Doug I'm up in Ellijay and would be happy to meet you around Dahlonega if you wanted.  Nimblewill Gap up to Amicolola could be a snowy ride, but not sure how many others will be on it.

Went up Tray with a group of 50/ 60 Jeeps. 3 miles in we came to 5/6 trees that had fallen, one fell & missed one of our Jeeps by a few feet. We got everyone turned around & got the hell out.
Went to Big Daddys & got lunch.  We got a group of 7 Jeeps & went up the back side of Tray. Really pretty & no trees were down.
