I am bored at work and hopefully this has not been a topic before.
Anyways, before you bought your current 4x4, what were you looking at?
For me, I was look for a Truck, so I thought F150 4x4 but slowly I realized MOST 4x4 trucks are only good for slinging mud and a construction site. So I started looking more at SUV's. My top 3 were: FJ, H3 and Xterra...
Glad I bought the JK!

I looked at some A4 & some A6s. Hoping to save some gas and use the 79 as my 4x4, then I realized i could buy a TJ instead. WoW what a mistake. :hlp

I sold my Ranger specifically to buy an XJ.

I was going to get a car for high school graduation from my grandmother. I was looking at late model muscle cars (F-bodies, Mustangs) and trucks (F-150) but realized insurance was going to be really high. Then about 6 weeks before I was too graduate, I was in an accident. Every insurance quote was through the roof and couldn't afford any thing too new. Was looking at all Jeeps but wanted something more capable then a Wrangler (towing, hauling, etc. wise), so I was looking at XJs and ZJs. Found out the ZJs could be had with a V8 and I was sold. Now if I would of done a little bit more homework before I got it, I might have tried to get an XJ or newer ZJ but I'm not regretting it.

the only non-Jeep that I have had in like the past 10 yrs was a BMW 535i when I was stationed in Germany... well and now my wife traded in her 04 Grand for a New ASpen... I have only owned like 4 different kind of cars in my life,.,.,. K-car, Jeep, BMW, Jeep, Jeep, Jeep, wifes Jeep, and now an Aspen.. I had to think about it way to long..

I drove a Commander Overland Edition with a Hemi when I was visting my bro in Colorado. That thing was sweet. I saw my first JK 4-door at that time. I still wasn't sold. I was also looking at the Chevy and GMC trucks. Well, when I got back, I went by the Jeep dealer here and test drove a JK. End of story.

Before I bought the Rubi, I considered the FJ and the H3. I ruled out the H3 after seeing the powertrain. The FJ... I looked long and hard, but the IFS was the hard point for me. I had the Tracker, and it has IFS... and it isn't the best for offroad. when they released the fianl details of the JK, i waited to see one in person and actually drive it. i'm glad i got the JK. the FJ was still #2 on my list.
i'm hoping to convince the wife that her next car is going to be a Challenger SRT-8... but i doubt i can convince her.

yea... i tend to be drawn to the vehicles that others dont like. the 78 had the 258 in it. the 72 was a land rocket. my brother destroyed it, though. in the same line of thought, was the Rampage. its sort of a bastard vehicle. noone makes anything for it. it would bolt to the front half of a Dodge Omni 0-24, though... it would fit fine since thats what it was designed off of. i think the only car i've ever had i was happy to see go was the Corrola. We only had it a year.... and not really a problem out of it. i hated it though.
there's a guy here in town that has an old Gremlin sitting behind his house. i keep trying to convince myself to see if they want to let go if it... but i'm essentially broke right now, so there isn't much I could offer em for it except cleaning that spot out of their yard. >:(

find myself another 304... maybe a 360.... prime it and call it a sleeper. ;)
the '72 i had ate up a 289 Mustang. ofcourse it helped that the driver thought he was picking on a 6 cylinder. that was a super fast car. mostly pre-emissions, so it was pretty decent. I'd like to have something like it again. i have an eye for the obscure. :D

That might be a little high JERM! and you need to keep and build that Rubi.
I had a NEW 2008 with full doors/pwr wind/locks bought at 0% for $24,641, and the wife said hold off for the build with 60's and the Hemi. ;)
