Title: Help me decide wheel/tire combo
Post by: Metro on May 14, 2008, 10:31:11 AM
I am debating two wheel/tire combos.
Option 1- Keep stock "silverblade" wheels and go to 265/75R16 (31.8" OD X 10.8 W) Maxxis Bighorns.  My jeep would look VERY similar to this:

Option 2- I picked up a set of 5 JK Rubicon wheels dirt cheap already and I would mount 275/70R17 (32.2" OD X 11 W) Bighorns on them.  My jeep would look very similar to this one but the tires would be slightly wider and shorter than the ones in the picture. The tires pictured below are 255/75R17s (32.4 X 10.5 W)

Either way I will have to run 1.25" wheel spacers and I will have to trim my front bumper cover.  I will probably have to remove my bumper cover completely if I wheel disconnected. Option 1 will probably cost me about $200 less.  I like the look of both but prefer the Rubicon wheels for street appearance.  Option 2 gives me a little more ground clearance.

Thoughts?????

Keep what you have.  It's different and I actually like the way they look better.

welll..... How cheap did you get those JK rubi wheels? If cheap enough you could probably sell them for a small profit. If thats is possible I go with option 1 because it is $200 cheaper

I got the set of 5 for $100 bucks and they look like brand new.  Supposedly 08 take offs with 200-300 miles on them.  I got them from Bud, I believe the same dude Chris purchased his XJ from.  I'm thinking I could get $200-$300 for them on ebay or Craigslist.

I like them both. Are the specs the same as far as width and backspacing? If not I would go with the one that is going to give the most of what you want. They both look great so look at function and cost.

What is on your Jeep now. Pic please. If I had to choose then I say the rubi wheels hands down.

Currently 31" MTRs (245/75R16) with a 4" lift.
Stock backspacing on the WJ wheel is 6" and the JK wheels are 6.25".  Spacers will make them 4 3/4  or 5" for the JKs.

I like those as well. Keep what you have, sell the rubis and buy some parts. ;)

He mentioned spacers. I'm guessing those will change the pattern from 5 on 4.5 to 5 on 5. (Or whatever the JK pattern is.)

I like what you have on their now plus you could sale the Rubi wheels for the extra $$$ to put to more upgrades!

WJs, WKs, XKs, and now JKs all have the same bolt pattern, 5x5".

I like the Rubi wheels better. I had a WJ with those wheels and sold them to get some black rock crawlers.

I like the stock wheels as well.  It's different.  I've seen too many Jeeps (mostly TJs) with the Rubicon wheels.  Either way, the Bighorns are definitely the way too go.

I've seen too many WJs with my current wheels.  What do you all thing about the extra .6 inches in diameter?  Isn't that worth something?

I've seen too many WJs with my current wheels.

That's because no one is modifying their WJs.  I mean it doesn't take much to go and fetch groceries.

Where do you get your groceries? I have gotten stuck several times in my ZJ trying to get mine.

But really, most WJs came with those wheels and most people who lift them usually keep the stock wheels, so on offroad boards, you see those wheels alot.
