This past weekend Sandy and I went out and stayed with some really good friends for the weekend. She got the message that her stepfather passed away Saturday. We came home early Sunday and was down in Macon today and the funeral will be in Barnesville Tuesday.
I've known James for the past 15 years and have really enjoyed our conversations. We always got along great even though he spent his time in the Navy and I was a Marine. You can only imagine the ribbing that went back and forth. I will continue to cherish those memories for the rest of my life.
Rest In Peace James. Semper Fidelis.

Chris, my condolences to you, Sandy, and y'alls family.
I had heard the Marines were a department of the Navy; My former marine co-worker tells me, "yeah, the men's department." I'm sure you have more...and I'd like to hear them sometime.

Thank you everyone.
The memorial and service were very nice and a fitting tribute to James. He was a graduate of Gordon Military Institute before enlisting in the Navy at the tail end of WWII. The ROTC unit sent an honor guard the the graveside service the present the flag and play Taps. No matter how many times I have heard those notes I will always tear up as another fallen brother has been taken home. After his time in the Navy he then worked for the railroad until he retired.
He was born on December 31 1927 and passed away on his 89th birthday. He will be missed by those of us left behind. God Bless you James and thank you for the memories.
