Title: Wall paint and bleed through
Post by: Mortalis5509 on April 04, 2017, 12:59:07 PM: So every spring I repaint half the walls and fill in any dings in the wall. Always use flat so you can't tell I do it.

So I have this small area where bleed through occurs. Looks like something is split and runs down the lower portion of the wall. Its been painted a few times. Use primer + paint every time, behr ultra. It bleeds through before the year is out. What would cause that? No other issue anywhere is the house. Light medium brown...called harvest brown I think.

Post by: Blue J on April 04, 2017, 01:07:39 PM: Oil base Kilz is the only thing I know besides sheet rock replacement that will stop bleed through. Dark oil base paint causes bad bleed through. Do not be suckered into the water base kilz BS.

That's most of it.

This is the paint I use. Again this one wall in the entire house. There is no water source near by. Sheetrock isn't soft.

Is that an exterior wall or near an attic fan/ladder? Any reason humidity would sweat there? e.g. humid cold air from a vent blowing on a warm wall or vice versa.

Post by: Blue J on April 05, 2017, 08:47:43 AM: Either Kilz it and/or if that doesn't work then it is most likely a polter-goose. Fixed only with a sledge hammer and new drywall. If it comes back after that, move.
