Title: D Day not commemorated by Google
Post by: tcdawg on June 06, 2019, 07:15:25 AM
Look at this horse crap

Google honors all kinds of different historical events and people on their google home screen.   Harriet Tubman, old jazz musicians, important parts of history ...all kinda of stuff.

But today...the 75th anniversary of the D Day invasion.  Nothing.

No way this is an oversight.

Holy bucket of crap, that's not just GLARINGLY OBVIOUS but utterly disrespectful. You know how much I respect that generation & it's sacrifices which Google wouldn't exist without.
WTF?

thanks for pointing this out .

The first site on my top 9 is Gatr.  It says crawling for read because that's the thread it opens when I click on it.

The fucktards at google have women’s World Cup soccer up today.   So the dude that is suppose to put up the daily Noodle is not on vacation.  He’s just a psy

Absolutely nothing wrong w women’s soccer.  Any sport where chicks take their shirt off when they score is alright in my book.

To my knowledge, the company I work for did not change their website yesterday to commemorate D-Day, did yours?

Is anyone going to boycott Google due to this serious infraction?

Did anyone boycott Google due to the last 5 years of this serious infraction?

My company doesn't update their homepage to commemorate historical events and people.  Google does, they have something almost every day.  But not D Day

Is anyone going to boycott Google due to this serious infraction?

Doubt it.  I am not.  I don't see it as a "serious infraction".  I see it as a very strange omission to what Google normally does.  I just found it very odd and telling that Google has something almost every day on their home screen...today it was women's soccer, but on the 75th anniversary of D Day, nothing.

Google can do whatever they want with their website.  I really don't care, but I would love to know why the omit D Day, there has to be a reason?

I was thinking maybe they don't want to "celebrate" the massacre. But it seems strange that they post something for other tragic events (ie 9/11 & Pearl Harbor) but not D Day.

Over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing during the Battle of Normandy. This figure includes over 209,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 dead amongst the ground forces and a further 16,714 deaths amongst the Allied air forces.

I did that and see It.  It’s a small graphic with no link.  Still pretty weak.

Wonder why they only show it on the google.com screen.  I see all kinds of other crap on my google homepage that the google commemorates

the difference is the URL http://google.com takes you to Google's homepage (accessible via any browser) - Search engine interface . When talkin about not seeing the same Google advertizing or "cause backing" banner from your normal Google page, if you are using Chrome or Edge you're seeing the Chromium Omnibox search engine query box that is built-into the browser ( why you see your most-viewed and can access your profile Privacy , etc.)
That has been 'built-in' to the Chrome ( and Edge) browser for a while now but can cause confusion like this , if I understand you correctly.

I just checked.  Our engineers said that certain graphics on the home page won't show up if the user spends too much time on shady sites.
