Title: Say goodbye to my JK
Post by: BigJerm on July 09, 2008, 10:21:20 PM
Yep, been looking for a little while now. Tonight I traded in the JK as is (they are going to give me back the CB). It was a hard decision especially since I owed more than Blue Book but they managed to get within $2k of payoff.

What did I get?

A 2007 4dr Rubicon with half doors, manual windows/locks, manual transmission, 4,600 miles, never been off road (and trust me after a good look over it hasn’t) and a great shape interior/exterior.  As much as I want to mod there was a strict agreement with megan… No mods for a LONG time unless I get them damn near free.

Sweet. What's funny is that you wanted some better 32" tires and a front locker and you got it plus more.

You're going to love that disconnect system and those lockers.  It's just so freaking convenient.  I guess congratulations are in order although I'm disappointed you're out of the two-door gang.  (I still have some extra parts if you break something offroad too.)

Mine is in the shop right now getting 5.13s.  On a related note they're having a little bit of problem getting the locker back in.  Apparently it has to be setup just so.  There's a little plunger that has to be set.  It's way above my head.  I'm a little worried, but they have to get it soon, right?

2 doors no more. I like the room, sure I will hate it first time I get hung up though... Lets us know how the Locker thing goes, I am really curious as to what is wrong.

On a side note, anyone care to break down for me how the E-locker and E-disco work? I know with the lockers you have to be in 4Lo but what else? Can I engage just 1? only both? and Disco not sure on it either. I got to whip out that fancy owners manual today and read!

And future plans... once the CC is paid off and Megan has her bedroom furniture then the plans are obvious... 37's  ;D

Nice ride!  (I'm jealous)  If it's like the 06 Rubi, push once to lock rear, twice to lock the front too.

Read the manual.  ;D  The switch for the lockers actually has a top and a bottom. Push the bottom once, you get rear. Push the bottom again, you get front and rear. Push the bottom again to go back to just rear. To disengage completely push the top and point it straight.

Unless you do the locker mod to fool the computer, lockers and e disco only work in 4 low under 18 mph.

I guess there's a little RTFM for you too!  The e-disco works in 4HI.  Only the lockers require 4LO.

Lets us know how the Locker thing goes, I am really curious as to what is wrong.

There's a good post about it over at jkowners.com.  The shop figured it out just prior to someone posting over there, but afterwards the light kept flashing.  Apparently, the indicator light sensor got damaged during the installation so they're ordering new ones.  Hopefully, they'll have them tomorrow so I can have my Jeep for the weekend.  The lockers are functioning (engaging and disengaging) properly from the report I got.

Probably right. He should drive up there and pull the old switcheroo. All he really needs to do is swap the bumper and snag the winch.

I don't know, Kelly blue book has options for pretty much all offroad equipment. Everything adds a little. Unless I'm wrong a winch will add $500 on a Jeep and they don't ask the brand either. If you've got it on blue book paper you could swear on it. I would.
Title: Re: Say goodbye to my JK
Post by: Will on July 10, 2008, 09:57:36 PM
Yep, $500 for a winch. I just compared my stock vehicle price to the offroad options that they have  (winch, custom bumper/winch guard, oversized offroad tires) and the difference was $900. Tht's more than I've got in my winch, custom bumper and offroad tires...  :D  There's no place for the lift, but Jeremy didn't have a lift on there anyways.  ;)
Title: Re: Say goodbye to my JK
Post by: BigJerm on July 10, 2008, 10:11:11 PM
not bad... after all that crap I went through with the winch I really only spent $150 for the winch, and I think the synthetic swap was like $200

What kind of "asking" price did the dealer have on it?
Title: Re: Say goodbye to my JK
Post by: BigJerm on July 11, 2008, 08:17:56 AM
they were asking $25,000 but had a "special" for $24k. After all said and done they gave me $17,500 for my Jeep (owed 19,600) and took the price of the Rubi down to $23k and waived their $500 dealer fees

I would say I was hard ballin them but I didn't at all. We had a set price/monthly payment and terms already figured out so if the dealer couldnt meet O well. We were there, they couldnt do it, so we left, they called all the next day and I kept saying the numbers wouldnt work and then they said they could not go lower and would list it back for sale (what a line  ::) ). Then there GM called and met the numbers...

welcome to the 4dr crowd... and the Rubicon. I love mine... even with the 6spd, you will probably notice the extra weight of the 4dr. it still holds its own.

wheeling is different. i finally got to really take mine offroading on June 28th. i got highcentered twice with my 2" b/b. it was in the river bed sand, so all i had to do was back down. no biggie. i will say this... once you put a 2" b/b on the 4dr, it looks about right. you may be able to get by, but the 2" adds just the right amount of air over the Rubi's 32" tires.

I wish i had stopped and taken a pic when I was hungup... but this was me on the way out.

that skint critter is a rare towel... haha the people at the dealer dont know how to put on a soft top so this thing must have leaked like a biotch... I finally got it all dried up yesterday while the sun was out.

yep soon... not soon enough. As much as I joke and say 37's I want to keep this one simple. A multi purpose rig that I can follow you fellas and then whip out the camera while yall do the big stuff. I am thinking a build list something like this:

2.5" Budget boost, Rugged Ridge front and rear bumpers (no stinger this time), a winch with rope, a receiver, probably some lights, and when the time comes, 33" tires.
Title: Re: Say goodbye to my JK
Post by: Krawler00 on July 14, 2008, 12:34:14 PM
Simple is  key. With your setup you will need some under under armor. Long wheel base less lift I would armor it. 2.5" lift and 33"s is plenty for you. You will be able to do all the big stuff on that. Lockers are God's gift to us wheelers!!! :D

I plan to armor the oil pan ASAP. Dont know why but it scares the shit out of me. I never hear of other JK’s damaging their pans to where it punctures but still… Don’t want to be the first! Ill probably run with the rest of the stock skids for now and toss on some diff covers for good measure.

you can, they make kits and brackets to do it but some require cutting hoses and such and I am not not sure I want to do that. They make a skid for it as well so that might be in my future...

Heck, there's not much to those evap system lines. There's only one line that fuel runs through, the return, and then everything else is for vapor pressure and all that crap, so as long as everything is air tight you're good. Where are you guys moving them on the JKs?

I haven't done it yet. I'm too lazy. I grabbed that off http://www.jeepswag.com/ . It's the Wood's relocation bracket. He's on JKOwners and JK-Forum. He's just a guy that has good ideas and sells them for a good price. He also has a storage tub enlargement kit for the 4-door that I want to install after I relocate my muffler. He's got a good price on the muffler relocation also.

Here's the tub.

I wasn't going to clutter the thread with talk of relocation kits, but since that can of worms is open...  Here's what I have (the canister is above the plate).  It's a Kilby kit, but a local company will have a like-kit in the near future for cheaper.
