Title: Golden Mountain Ride
Post by: TravisMac on May 19, 2024, 08:32:28 AM

Just saw that GMP is charging $15 for parking & camping for up to 4 people & each additional person is $5.

I hope this is a one time thing.

I got this email from Wide Open Design about the Golden Mountain ride and it had the following text.  Interesting that they make a point of saying this is NOT a grand re-opening but only a one time event...

This ride is happening. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was the last one for a while since they keep "working out the details" with a real opening

Kind of a boring video, but it shows what shape GM is in.
Bring a chainsaw, watch out for snakes , poison ivy and poison oak!

It's over grown like a MFr.
I hope this ride beats it all down.
Can't wait to go again.

Looks like you pay for parking/camping with CASH ONLY at the gate and it's $15 per night.

What's everyone's plans?  Friday-Sunday?

If I'm the only “small tire” guy I'll find people to jump in with or try not to slow down you 40”+ guys.

Doesn't sound fun!!

Hey Guys!!! This weekend is it! The Golden Mountain Run. We have worked hard to put together a heck of an event for everyone. I want to say that I am really excited to see a good old fashioned trail ride get so much attention as this on has.

This is my first time ever trying to help coordinate anything like this.

We know this event is going to be crowded. We are making plans right now to help get guys checked in as fast as possible. Please be patient all weekend. This isn't a race and we are all going to be there to have fun. The trails will be crowded. Right now the on line registration is cut off at 400 drivers. We will be selling tickets at the gate. But we wanted people to know you are coming into a crowded event. Be ready for that. If that is going to pose a problem for you right out of the gate and you didn't know that is what you were signing up for.  We can get you a refund. We do not want any to show up for this event and not have a good expectation of what is going to happen. There is going to be a line at registration at some point. The campers are going to have to be parked in a tight pattern to make sure that they will all fit into the park. There will be some waiting on the trails from traffic. Please be ready for this.

We have been asked about side by sides for this event. The insurance that is in place does not allow side by sides. They can not come to this event. If you have a side by side and you are planning on coming to his event please get a refund. We suspect this rule will change for following events at the park.

*********EDITED ************

Southern Four Wheel Drive Has made arrangements to be able to allow side by sides. This didn't look like a possibility at first. So it was  stated on the registration that they were not going to be allowed. After a lot of guys still signed up with side by sides Southern fought to make it happen. So YES they are allowing side by sides at the Golden Mountain ride. How ever there aren't going to be any 4 wheelers  (ATV) allowed.

******** End of Edit **********

Please post up here if you have questions about the event that have not been answered. I'll try my best to get answers.

I want to see this be a great event and I'll help every where I can.

I knew if we ever got a chance to help this park open back up that the turn out would be huge but I am blown away with just how many people have pre signed up!!!!

I'm here. Struggled to find people wheeling. Wnd have now been sitting at crackhead for 2 hours.

Awesome people, awesome trails, good times. Main roads are dusty, but some trails are slick.

Crackhead is mostly dry, it's a spectacle for sure.

Truss on a yota axle was ripped entirely off. He got towed off, then i met up with those guys again later on Crackhead with the PCR guys. Alot of people, but no one is in a hurry. From what I've seen, other than the mud, the trails are mostly clean(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240727/3d71eb12ceb902035ad908b50f36ac35.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240727/90947cffc56dbc686bd0a02c3c91e0af.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240727/7bca43fe1dac09fd7f8fc9bffd2a6cce.jpg)

What was the verdict on GMP this past weekend?
Title: Re: Golden Mountain Ride

What was the verdict on GMP this past weekend?

Awesome. Only a handful of trails were overgrown, most of the rest were cut back and ready to wheel and looked like they had been in use for a while. It was super dusty Saturday. No standing water or anything like that and only a few muddy places. Other than what seemed like 50 rigs and 100 people spectating around bounty hill, we never ran into anyone else. Two food trucks on site Friday and Saturday, and weather was great.

If anyone was on the fence, you missed out.

I didn't take a ton of pics. I broke the high steer arm off my rear passenger knuckle after getting bound up hitting Crackhead for the second time Saturday morning. We didn't realize it was broken until after i got out the top and were just hanging out and my buddy said "that looks cracked." Sure enough, it was. I decided to just drive it back to the trailer instead of welding it back up there because I'd just have to redo it when I got home. I spent the rest of Saturday riding in Marty's old buggy and talking trash to everyone else in the group.

I got to take a look at the "Blown Money" buggy in person, and it's quite nice. Of course, it better be, considering the $280k price tag(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/f1ec22b16f0bc1bbbf8117706b65f7fa.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/d5204544d63a5b0589ad8d4c84b41538.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/6fd3ffcc17126ff491267b4d32ede554.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/452241aa9d79e1c8efc68850d414a106.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/7444b10a4b75cb98af0a83d9f8bbba6b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/90e9f1446ca59524e04722eed79beb65.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240730/4dd40c2cfe9da2676bf751ec41494a99.jpg)

For those of you that have not been yet, It is worth going. They did a lot of maintenance on the perimeter trails. There actually better than I even saw them before. Some of the rock trails have eroded a bit and they are quite difficult now, but they are doable. You need drive smart, or you will be winching or broke. Some of the rock trails are just plane fun.
