My Jeep is stuck at work. I go to leave this afternoon and the engine idles for a couple seconds then just dies. For the first few seconds, it runs perfect. It gets spark, fuel, air. I can start it with the throttle opened up and still dies after the same amount of time. No blown fuses that I could see under the hood or in the kick panel. It acts like it would if I started it with a key without a chip in it. Idears?

Does it have the factory alarm?
-
Thats may not be the problem. How much gas you got in it?
-
There used to be an aftermarket alarm in it, but the only thing left is a speaker and an LED with no wiring going to it (checked it out when I redid the dash). I have 3/4's of a tank, and the engine is getting fuel.

CPS or IAC Motor is my guess.
-
On my 87 the coil was bad it would do it every now and then and I pulled the coil off on day and the back of the coil was cracked up but I think Jeep changed the coil on the newer xjs

Thats starting to be my thought, Gus or Richard - If I can't get it started tonight I might get one of y'all to help my trailer it home.

You dont have a security key do you? One of mine went bad and it would only run for a few seconds and die.

I do, and I tried my other key and it didn't work either. And to confuse matters even more, I went back over there and I noticed the passenger floorboard is soaking wet. So 1) I have to figure out where it came in from and 2) if it soaked anything by the fuse panel. The fuse panel seemed dry though and no fuses were blown. Now that I think about it, this happened once before after a wash, but it started up fine after a couple minutes. So now I am just plain confused. [hammer]
AND, to piss me off even more, I think something fell off the tree I am parked under and cracked my fucking windshield.....atleast my luck was better than my sisters today. She backed into a car at Waffle House, didn't realize it (or so she claims), and drove away. A little bit later, she was almost arrested for a hit and run.
-
Wow... sorry bud. Glad your sister didn't get arrested too. :o

I got to work this morning and the Jeep fired right up. Something definitely had to have gotten wet since it was fine this morning after it had time to dry. Its still throwing a code, so hopefully I can figure out where the leak is and whats getting wet from the code.
-
good to hear you got it running again. keep my number still if you need a tow.

Hey Jimmy, next time roll up the windows when it rains. :D
