Title: A truck not flexing..
Post by: nwcj5 on October 15, 2008, 07:08:19 PM
my friend's old ford ranger does not flex..it doesn't have a sway bar that I can spot...there your normal three bars when you look at the front of his truck, the tie rod, track bar and drag link...I assume that none of these should be keeping it from flexing?? I guess the coils could just be extremely stiff coils and it wouldn't surprise me, but I know his truck could do stuff easier if it would flex, so I just wanted to see what ya'll had to say

What year?

TTB/TIB suspension blows if its older. I had a Bronco II and would of put a solid axle under front if I didnt lay it over.

Shock travel may be restricting the drop.

I think its like a '79...I didn't think about shock travel, I'll definitely check that out

If its a 79 its the full size and depending on the springs it will not flex. If its the small ranger and is on factory suspension or mild after market it wont flex a whole lot.

Flex wont keep you from flopping.

If your body pitches more than it should on an embankment it certainly does. Flex keeps you from flopping in MANY situations.

A body will pitch more while disconnected than connected, which is where most flex comes from.

Yes, the body pitches but not the wheels if there is flex. If the body is leaning tand the tires are on the ground then 99% of the time you will be fine, if you don't get dumb. No flex and you are gonna flop! Look at those rigs that run no sway bars and the body is leaning all over but the truck has like 20" or more flex. I for one am for as much flex as possible.

OK, I'll give you that if we assume that the incline is perpendicular to your line, but how many times do we have that, and there's not a bank of the opposite side to catch us?

When you're going up or down a hill and you have a rock or just more ground beneath one tire, you're gonna need some flex to pull the whole vehicle down or else you'll have one tire in the air, more weight on the opposite set of tires and much less stability. Ben can vouch that he's seen the results of that.

Good lord, are you already drinking?  :D

With drinking on topic, I hope no one played a Presidential debate drinking game last night and drank on "Joe Plumber." The ones who did wouldn't be up yet I guess  :P
