Gotta give props to Billy and Jugg for helping me work out the bugs with my Jeep on my first trip with GATR at Tellico last year.  The Jeep was new.... (to me at least).  I didn't even know to disconnect the front sway bar.  I had alot of experience with my previous rig (an '83 K5 Blazer) but none of that applied once we got off the pavement... and both of those guys helped get me in  (and out ) of Tellico even with a complete front axle vacuum problem that I hadn't discovered  til we got on the trail...

Now I am totally addicted to working on my Jeep and wheeling when I get the time...

Also been meaning to apologize to everyone for sportin' my Trout Unlimited decal on that ride.  I have always been a mountain trout/fly fisherman..........probably since before alot of you guys were born............but I had NO idea that TU was responsible for shutting down parts of Tellico.  Now I tell my TU buddies to be extra careful about the fine print of what that group supports...

Cancelled my mebership to TU...............and looking forward to the next GATR ride.

We don't see Billy and Jugg around here much anymore  :'(

As far as TU don't worry about it man. I have friends who wheel who are TU members yet have no clue about Tellico. It seems to be the normal with SEVERAL TU members I have talked to. And we are at Tellico Nov 7-9 some come on and join us and sign up in the thread in the member section! Maiden Tellico voyage for my stock Rubicon I have now.

JT,

I have been involved in 4 wheeling for a long time. I used to get involved in mud drags, and like you i have discovered that being in a jeep hitting the trails is not the same thing. It's funny that you mention not knowing to disconnect the sway bar. I remember the first time somebody told me this and I was looking at this guy thinking your a f$%$& idiot that things there for a reason. Ha, little did I know.

On a different note, I would not apologize for flying your TU sticker. You were in the club for the very same reason we are in GATR, we all enjoy the outdoors and we enjoy associating with people with people who share our enthusiasm. It's unfortunate that the TU club is only out for themselves and not for all of the people who enjoy nature. One thing you could do is if you still have friends that are in the TU club is to have them right letters to their club organizers and telling them that they do not agree with the decision they are making in regards with pushing to shut down OHV trails. Every little bit helps!

Oh, and cool jeep dude! I hope to meet you on a trail one day.

Chuckie,

Yeah.....I guess apologize is not really the right word.  Overall TU does stand for some good things and alot of the guys I met there were totally supportive of everyone's right to access public land. Seems like more the corporate guys and lawyers causing the problems than the guys who actually were spending time fishing...

It was just funny that the very first GATR ride I showed up to was one where TONS of clubs were lined up to do trails at Tellico that were being closed the very next day because of pressure/lawsuits from Trout Unlimited.  The first I had heard of TU being involved in closing access to parts of Tellico was waiting in line to go up Slickrock........dude in a tube buggy tells me "You must have a big set of $#%^ to have that TU decal in your window....."  I had no idea what he was talking about and then I felt like crap when somebody else clued me in.

It was really no big deal.....just wrong decal, wrong place, wrong time!
