Title: Tellico After Ride 11/8/08
Post by: BigJerm on November 08, 2008, 09:38:49 PM
Had a good ride today. Took TJ in a stock JK X and Seth in a stock LJ up 6, all of 4 and 8 from 4 to the top off Slickrock. Took a break at Fains Ford for lunch. Never did get a chance to meet back up with the big guys but from the little I heard on the CB it sounded like some other rigs were broke down on the trail and I think I heard at 1 point Mark broke a drive shaft.

Only damage us stock guys had is right at the very end of 4 meeting back up with 1 the last few rocks TJ cut the side wall on his passenger side tire. It is the stock JK tire and they are known to have weak side walls.

Anyways, good to meet you TJ, Seth and Glenn. Bill did you ever make it up? We ran into the other JK group but didn't see you with them. Ill get my very few pictures up soon.

Looks like you all had a good time. I can't wait to wheel there.

We didn't get to many pictures, Donna got mad at camera and was over it. We had a great time and I can't thank everyone enough for all the work they did to get through the rest of the trail and back to the cabin. I found one of the weak links in the XJ going up school bus, the rear u-joint had straps instead of u bolts. I pulled the shaft and got winched and drug a lot the rest of the day. Mike L found out what it was like to wheel with a 4 thousand pound anchor. Thanks again guys. Here are the few pictures that we shot. Can't wait to see everyone elses pictures.

I guess that would explain why yall were not done by 4! Is that the only break yall had? I got under the Jeep today, put a long shallow dent in the gas tank skid plate, got some good wacks on the passenger slider and other various hits along the skids.

Good pictures. Just remember this ledge at Fains Ford is closed. That is the reason for the big rocks on it.... Makes no real sense to do that seeing that it is a park full of rocks so why use rocks to block off a ledge... Anyways it is closed so don't try and climb up it! Good for pictures though on the top like that.

Glenn's friend Terry. Pretty nice looking rig but didn't get to see it on the trails.

I'll get my photos up later, justtaking a break, still have to get unloaded and run the trailr over to storage.

Terry in the Rubi from Charlotte on the 36's brought his daughter Savannah, who spent time with our girls, and we headed off across 1 this am to see the falls over towards Tellico Plains.

We stopped at the fish camp as my high lift mount had broken somewhere at the top bolt and was floppin around about to fall over,
(Ben did the cables at guardrail catch it that bad to snap my steel mount on the Fab Fours bumper?) ,
 when someone saw that Terry's TJ was pouring our gear oil, we though from the tranny.  he turned around, and we back tracked him to Murphy but never saw him on the way out, but he is home now, and all is well.  He thinks it's the transfer case.

Carnage.  Always some carnage.  I hate that part.  >:(

More later, we're all wiped.

I wish I could have to. Next year I am going to attempt more overnight trips. Driving up wheeling and going home same day sucks.

Had a good time. Boy was it slick. Schoolbus and beyond has definitely gotten harder. I didn't get many pictures because I was using an old camera with limited memory.

Here's the few I got.

Ben winching up the Bus.
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x164/SeminoleMike/Jeep%20Pictures/Tellico%20November%202008/DSC02504.jpg)

Glen winching up the Bus.
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x164/SeminoleMike/Jeep%20Pictures/Tellico%20November%202008/DSC02506.jpg)

Mark didn't need no stinking winch. Unfortunately this would also be the last time he had rear wheel drive.
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x164/SeminoleMike/Jeep%20Pictures/Tellico%20November%202008/DSC02509.jpg)

Terry making it happen.

Carnage.  >:(

Nasty one, Travis.
Funny thing; when he and Stephanie came camping with us, I got a flat too.  It's alot harder to fix a sidewall though....
Here's how to do it --- if you ever really have to: http://www.adventuretrailers.com/tireclinic.html#major

We just went to Natootley Creek because of trailer-dragging fuel economy issues.  Got a nice spot and I found a new ugly road to explore.

Oh man I can't wait to get home and see the rest of the pics!  Can't see them here at work.

I had an awesome time!

Thanks again to Doug and Jerm for all the help.  And I think it was Ben that tied up my swaybar connections on the trail.  Thanks again.

I went from clueless to picking my own lines on the trail this past weekend.  All thanks to the GA Trailriders.  You guys are really a helpful bunch.  Great meeting all of you.

It was a reality check seeing the heavily modified rigs up there.  But the LJ held up even better than I imagined.  Can't wait for my lift and tires in the spring now.  Once the baby is born and I'm not needed 100% of the time I'll be back out with you guys.

I'll be posting my pics and my CB install writeup soon.

Thanks again,
Seth

Seth, glad you had a great time. You and TJ both starting taking some really good lines. I got a few small dents in the skids and a couple of nice rashes on the rails so I probably could have used a bit better line picking in some spots as well. Like I said, sometimes I tried to take the harder line to challenge the Jeep and sometimes I just couldnt pick the right line to be on. Only locked it once though to get myself of the hi-center stuck.

Alright boys, I am finished uploading pics and workin on videos as we speak. I was wiped out yesterday after leaving tellico I went straight to my moms to see some family and never got to rest. I was asleep by 9:15 last night. So here are the pics I got...http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/krawler00/Tellico%20GATR%20Nov%2008/

Now the trip was awesome and we all worked or junk super hard up the bus. That trail has gotten seriously rutted out! It was a blast and had fun wioth Glen running cables, straps and all! We work well as a team and it made that first beer back at camp that much better!! {toast} I will post up the video links as I get them. Carnage for me was another small crack in the hartop at the vents in the back. Damn schoolbus tree AGAIN!!! I almost busted out the back passenger window on another section as well. Had to pull the cable to avoid it. Oh, and as for the spot everyone had to winch up... I made it along with Doug. ;D {nln}

hey if anyone has access to the JK-forum thread I would like to hear about it. We ran into a group of them at Fains Ford and they seemed shocked we were up there in stock Jeeps. Just wanted to make sure they knew you didnt need 3" and 35's to have some fun up there. I saw one of them did Guard Rail but no one else gave it a shot but thats in the trip section. I cant see any local forum stuff on that board.

No comparison. This is one of the MECCA spots to wheel by far. Terry and I were speaking of a spring run to his place in uwharrie(sp). He lives 30 minutes from there. I guess as soon as we wargame this, I will post up the info. We can shack up at his place and in his backyard for the camping guys. But yeah Chuck, it was fun but I am fixing to go see what damage I sustained here shortly. Thats just part of it. {toast}

Looks like us South Georgia Wheelers missed a great ride, guess the rain made it more fun if you like mud.

Remember I do not have too much pride to call for the strap or winch. lol

Sorry we were not up in Hiawassee to ride with you great wheelers.

Hey Clyde, you would have loved it.  No mud, just slick rocks.  It was much more difficult than the day you were with us.  it was a long day, but you would have loved trying to get up things after watching a 4 door JK pull a wounded beast up it.  Mike gets accolades.  {toast}

Clyde, you've done the Rubicon and Moab.  Which is more challenging?  If you could only do one, which would it be?

I was showing off these pics tonight. I realized now that Terry and I were not really aired down that much. Iwas running 10PSI and Terry was the same. I should have went to 5 or 6. Next time!!

I have run 8 in my BFGs a couple times, and 10 a lot, but for the last 3-4 trips I've been keeping it between 12-15 pounds to keep a little height. I haven't noticed any less bite out of them, so that's what I'm running with these tires.

Off the subject-
  Whats up for New Years? A few of us have talked off-line. Something that does not involve driving. Any thoughts?
