Title: Name that part...
Post by: Logan on December 18, 2008, 08:15:54 PM
As the title says name the part... I'm going to link a picture of a mangled part I just replaced on my Jeep. The first person to guess the correct part get's a beer of their choice if we ever meet, if you don't drink well I'll buy you a happy meal or something... Bonus points for whoever can tell me how this part was broken, because I would really like to know.

It looks like the trackbar mount and the power steering pump bracket

It's the doo-hickey. You can see the bolts for the whatca-ma-call-it and the holes for the thing-a-ma-jig.

Some accessory mount on the engine.

looks like the lower-right part is a part of a mm...and the upper-right and lower-left look like part of an engine block and the middle piece looks like part of a bracket of some kind.

Jimmy is closest so far.

Hint: It's attached to the lower right side of a 4.0 and I had to remove the battery and battery box to change the mount out.

Ouch.

You should have seen the look on the face of the guy at the parts store when I set that down on the counter. I ended up having to go to the junk yard and pull one in the rain, while laying in the mud.

Nah I'm cool man, I'm not drinking that day

The amc 2.5's were bad about having a broken alternator pulley. me and a friend had them break on us

stress/vibration/faulty design caused it. needs more triangulation

I wish I knew. I bought the Jeep 2 days before Thanksgiving with 238,000 miles on it. it started acting like the alternator was bad and when I went to change it out that is what I found.

I don't know about that, but I always end up with a surprise or two every time I go to work on it.

I expected that, but it's better than having to drop a new engine in a 97 F-150 with only 85,000 mi on the clock.
