Hey everybody,
I was thinking about purchasing a Hi Lift Jack and I thought I would get some opinions for all you guys first..
-
I have had one for about a year and never needed. The most use I have seen one on the trail is the handle getting used for bent tie rods.
To bad you are so far away or I would sell you mine!
-
Yeah get one and learn how it works before you need it. Always spray it down with penetrating oil/wd40 before you use it, most of the time it doesnt work unless you do that.
Get the short one, whatever length that is. 48" I believe it is
A bottle jack is a nice thing to have also, especially if you dont carry a hi-lift
-
Very useful to have and a good investment. I have only had to use it once but it really helped. The loose base helps on the trail since you are almost never on flat ground but are almost always needing to jack straight up. Also, because they are so long, you can still jack up a lifted Jeep with the sway bar disconnected to remove a tire. The best price I have found is at Tractor Supply Co.
And 48" is the shorter one. 60" is the other one.
-
I have found a few that are 36". the cost is around 59.00 + shipping or 4x4 RockShop has a 36" for 69.00 with free shipping.. I just wonder if 36" would be sufficient. I only have a baby jeep with 2" lift and 1" body lift... ;D
I agree that Tractor Supply is the cheapest..
-
I think 36" might be too short for some occasions. I know your Jeep might not be that tall but you might have to use it on someone else's vehicle.
And like I said, you can get a 48" one for under $60 after tax from TSC.
-
Thanks alot.. I was kind of thinking the same thing..
Keep the advice coming..
-
It can also be used to pull out a vechicle in case of wench failure. Its real slow but it work
-
Yeah the 48" one is the one, 36" does seem really short
I have a 60" and it's pretty heavy and actually hard to find a place to mount it
TSC definately has the best prices and they have a rebuild/pin kit there also
-
Take care of it and don't leave it in the weather! I have one sitting in the shed that is completely useless due to lack of care. I have used them for: moving trees off the trail at Tellico, lifting the body of Alex's Jeep to put a spring back in, used the handle to sleeve my tierod when it bent. They are pretty useful, and pretty dangerous too, so be careful!
-
I have to use mine once or twice a year.
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
-
Well Jimmy, that was really one huge tree instead of trees. But I think it still worked, it seems like most of the work was done by pure man power.

Jack it up, roll it over, jack it up, roll it over, jack it up roll it over. Then we turned to Warn power, lol. That seems like such a long time ago now.

Seriously. First time I meet everyone. I still had my beard. My Jeep was still unlocked and on spacers. I kinda fell asleep at the wheel that night. Good times, Good times.

Yeah, I was open/open too. Can't remember if I had 32s or 33s at the time. Hell, Mike's Jeep was bone stock except for the bumper and winch!
Anyway, back on topic, get the hilift!

Every off roader needs a hi-lift as they have many, many uses on and off the trail (as you can read from the posts above). I keep mine in back of the truck so I use marine spray lube which is a waterproof lube and it has worked for about 6 years with no problems! I had to use mine years back to get my old stock TJ out of a high centered mud hole (jack and push, jack and push).
-
Get it! It fits behind the seat in the TJ on the tubs so you never know it's there. It can be used for everything so better get it! ;)

I have a 48 and a 60, I put the 60" on the XJ because I got tired of hitting my head on it on the YJ. Summit has a good price on the 48" cast, I think there shipping is free also, or it a fun store to go in and blow some money.
