Hello Fellas,
Went to Mountainside this weekend. Not sure if you have been there but it is a decent park for $10 a day and free camping. They have a fun hill called the rev limiter that you should try.
At the top of the park, they have a trail called overlook that is nice. However, be careful of the mud holes. One of them swallowed my friends Rubicon.
Here are some pics

Very nice. A few have been. It is on the calendar for sure.
-
Wow, swallowed for sho. Did his Rubi survive that drowning? He's pretty luck if it did.
I've been to Mountainside a couple of times. It's a cool place, but I don't remember the canal you guys were driving in.
-
Woa buddy. He must have been moving to have all that mud on his hood... Hope he didn't clutch it if he has the 6 speed!
-
WOW--- again--WOW!!- i dont think i would diving a new rubi in a hole like that - thats just me- he has ginormous BALLs or NO brain!
-
Should have bought a boat :D
-
That looks fun, don't it Will?

Come on, give us the details. I keep coming back to these pictures.
He's lucky the engine breather is on the passenger side, but make sure he changes all the fluids including the diffs. The water is above the air tubes.
Was the Jeep running when it was really deep or was he being pulled through? I sure hope everything turns out OK for him.
-
Yeah... It was pretty deep...
Here are some details. The jeep is brand new and only has 3000 miles on it.
Although he was stuck for a couple of hours, he kept the jeep running the entire time. I felt bad, my 1000lbs dune buggy had no chance of pulling him out.
Nothing major appears to be broken but it did take 7 hours to get home since the jeep kept over heating every 20-30 minutes. We stopped at a car wash and tried to rinse the radiator but he was still overheating. There was so much mud stuck in the fan shroud we had to use a screw driver to get the fan free and "Yes" the fan motor is burned up.
He has spent 3 days cleaning the jeep so that he can take it back to the dealer and have the fan fixed under warranty. He is extremely lucky that the door seals worked or he would have had a huge mess inside the jeep.
All and all, he is very lucky. No severe problems yet...
It was not really his fault.. The puddle 200 feet in front of this one was very shallow and this one did not look very deep. However, next time he will check before jumping in or at least go in slowly to test it 1st.
Oh well, one to learn on.. I just hope he goes wheelin again. He is really singing the blues.
-
Well, I hope the guy doesn't give up on a great hobby. Have him come ride with us and we'll try to keep him out of the mud. {toast}
-
Yeah, don't let this one incident drive him away. I've got my truck stuck in a river before in which the door seals didn't work and I've bashed it on more trees (mainly) and rocks than I would've liked, but it's all part of the game.
-
Nice!!!

X2! Get him on the forum here! (Don't let him near Will! ::))
We'll show him how to wheel and stay clean. That's an awesome Jeep!

He ain't got nothin on me {nln}
Make sure he changes ALL them fluids. Transmission, transfer case, differentials and engine.
-
Ok Fellas,
Here is an update on the jeep.
Replaced the fan motor
Replaced the Radiator
Replaced the AC compressor
Replace belt and a few pulleys
Changed all fluids (The diffs were actually full of water)
Hopefully, that will be all he finds broken.

Well that sucks. Did warranty cover any of it?
-
I bet not. I remember hearing about a guy who had similar issues and they found mud and such while changing parts so they voided it. I guess they don't cover "stupid" accidents. BS! If you make a Jeep you should stand behind it!

Well, yes and no. Warranties don't cover sinking a Jeep. I agree that too much stuff gets denied, but I wouldn't warranty it if I was the service manager, unless I just wanted to gain a long term customer. I've seen dealers cover worse things, but I've also seen them deny things that should be covered. I guess it's hit or miss. I think sinking a Jeep falls more in the insurance claim category.
I've been lucky. My Jeep has only been to the dealer once for a brake flash recall. At 45,00 miles, I'm past the Jeep warranty and now into the 100,000 mile extended warranty that I bought with the Jeep. I wonder how that warranty will hold up if I need to use it.
-
I know my Ford warranty is up, but I also bought an extended warranty from Toyota Mall of Georgia. I was in the market for a Tacoma, but Matt and I worked them down pretty ok for the Ranger. I wonder if my warranty would even be any good anymore. They'd probably feed me a line of bull about how this and that voided my warranty...
-
ahh the warranty debate... It does seem hit or miss with the Jeeps. I mean the dealer warrantied MikeD front axle while he had 35" tires mounted... some forums online say the dealers wont warranty axle breaks if you are running larger than the factory 32" rubicon tires.
My best dealing was with my Tiburon. Took it in for something electrical in the cabin... wanna say the AC controls. When I picked it up there was a note from the service manager that said, "Nice car, but your warranty is pretty much voided except stuff inside the cabin on the car." I guess a supercharger with the supporting mods, clutch, and limited slip will do that to you {toast}
-
Dont have to worry bout warranties. My insurance company says that Im covered so thats good enuff for me!
-
I like MSO
-
GET IT LARRY!!!
-
Nope.. No warrenty.. My buddy paid for everything to be fixed so that he did not have his lifetime bumper to bumper warranty voided by the dealer.
Hey Larry,
Nice job on Rev limiter. That rock was much steeper than the videos made it look.
-
Here's an early morning, still damp run up Rev Limiter in a JK. Don't mind the comments from the peanut gallery.

Nice vids where is mountain side
-
Nice Vid and some mighty fine driving..
It was funny, when my daughter (she is 6) saw rev limiter, she jumped out of the buggy and said no way. {no} {no} I cannot blame her, we have rolled before and she did not like that.
-
That's a great vid Mike. Larry made it look much easier than it really is. We don't have another obstacle like that anywhere so steep and smooth that you just slide back to the bottom when you stop. I have yet to make it up the rev. In Moab, that's an easy climb for everybody. ;D
