Title: Anybody get some good rain tonight?
Post by: BigJerm on April 23, 2009, 11:09:35 PM
Man it poured here in Smyrna... hail storm and all. Looks like the thin sheet metal Jeep survived. I was driving taking the dog to my parents in Lilburn while I am gone this weekend and it rained/hailed all the way there. Then rained/hailed all the way back home.

We got to the apartment drive and all the rain had backed up the drains and there was about 3 feet of flowing water on the exit side and around 2-3 feet on the entrance side and probably about 20-30 cars waiting both directions. I drove around, drove through it, and then coached a few SUV's through the water before going home. I went back a few minutes ago just to check, water has gone down some but looks like there are 2 or 3 cars that might have hydro locked and were left in and around the water.

haha it honestly wasnt that bad and i would have taken Megan's Liberty through it. I did break the rule of not driving on a road that is covered with flowing water... but I wanted to get home... (and show i could do it  ;D )

Glad everything is alright.  We got a good bit of water up here.  Blew a tree down that I had to winch out of the driveway.

Rule?  What rule?  I never knew that was a rule.  Screw it man, ya got a Jeep.

Haha tedder the rule you always hear on the news. Don't drive through moving water covering a road because it could have taken out the road. Would have sucked to nose dive my jeep into a hole infront of 30 people. But I couldn't help showing off.

Cars were still there this morning so looks like 3 might have locked. Shows you how deep it was.

OUCH if you got the hail we got... I have been there before though. One of our first club rides I got rained on halfway up to tellico with no doors and 35" tires that stuck further than the flares

haha, man that sounds painful. i was almost caught out with out a top and doors cause it was so HOT right before.

how bad is the visibility while driving in the rain without a top? besides the obvious of getting soaked.

Not very good.  I also wear glasses, so I had the wipers on in addition to having a towel in hand to wipe the inside windshield and glasses.  I had to slow down a lot. Wouldn't want to miss a building directly in front of me or anything.  lol, the roll bars will still dripping this morning.

When you own a Jeep it will happen eventually.

It's all part of the fun.  I had snow in Ohio IN my YJ and now rain here in the JK.  I actually got caught with the top down in a pretty good storm less then a week after I brought it home.  So much for that new Jeep smell.

Unless you're one of the mall crawling, grocery getting types.  Who would never dream of taking the top off.  Probably have a hard top on all-year around.

Yea it's pretty crappy.  I wear glasses too so it's a bit work imo.  Windshield wipers pretty much become pointless because all the water is on the inside of the windshield.

But on the bright side TJ's gauge cluster and such are designed to be "water proof".
