Car and truck show at GSC benefits charities

GAINESVILLE – Cars and trucks covered the campus at Gainesville State College on Sunday. It was all part of a car show to raise money for local charities.
More than 100 people attended the show that featured over 30 entries.
The funds raised went to support many organizations, including Operation Lightsaber, an organization that benefits the military, the Campbell Soup Company's “Let's can hunger campaign,” and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), a non-profit group dedicated to improving financial literacy in the community.
“We wanted it to be a wide selection but we definitely have more trucks than cars. That's because of the Georgia Trail Riders supporting the military,” said SIFE President Joshua Troutman.
One of the biggest attractions of the day was the opportunity to take a heavy-duty hammer to an Oakwood Police Department cruiser. The car was donated to raise food for area pantries.
David Powell, regional manager for Four-Wheel Parts and Performance Centers, came to the car and truck show to show support.
“We're out here to support the Georgia Trail Riders, one of the coordinators of the car show, and to support the Lightsaber program which we are a part of,” said Powell.
