Hey all,
Im going to be up at our cabin in Hiawasse the week of Oct 28-Nov 3, and was hoping to go riding with some of you all the weekend of the 31st or the 1st. I will have my Super Duty and would love to put it through the trails up there.
I dont know of alot of places other than Beasley, which I've driven a little of the trails there, and theres a nice long trail of Upper Hightower Rd that I run every time I go up, which is right down the road from the cabin.
So, can we get a group together? I'm up for anything as long as there is minimal chance of body damage. I dont mind scratches, but not into body work. Again, its a crew cab short bed, on 38" tires. I do have a 12K winch, a CB, and front and rear recovery points. As well as all the necessary gear listed in the trail requirements.
Thanks
Look forward to meeting some of you

i keep hearing about old roads and what not in the Georgia mountains... maybe its worth checking out?
-
pm sent about ride here nov 1st
-
I will see what I can do.
-
Got the PM
Let me know where and what time to meet, I'll be there. Looking forward to riding on more than just sand and flat roads. And to much cooler weather, its been in the 90's all week, actually since last January here. Need some relief!

You better bring a coat it's 45 right now and theres a freeze warning in effect here for tonight. All the leaves have turned goldish brown and alot have fallen. Great time of the year for a ride through the backwoods though.
-
At 45*, Id still be wearing a tshirt, I love the cold weather. I figure one more summer here in FL and Im moving up there. Just cant stand the 10 months of summer we have down here. Dont mind it for a month or two, but not the extreme we have here. And the trails there are so much nicer than what we have here. Unless you like lots of mud, and bottomless sand pits.
BTW, my buddy my come with me, he has a 04 Hummer H2. Not sure if he'll make it or not, but it is a possibility.
Where and what time do we meet? Im pretty familiar with Clayton, and Hiawassee, but directions, or an address to plug into the NAV would help.
Thanks

Rockinwrangler and I haven't decided a meeting time yet but when we do we will post it.

This still a go?

Yea man... as far as I know I am going to be up in Hiawassee beginning the afternoon of Oct 31- Nov 6th. Unless something changes.. going to try and have the sye and shaft installed for the trip..
If anyone is interested in coming up and riding any day that week just let me know..
Rabunjeeper, Trailwale, CesRocks, Rockinwrangler and possibly Tedder will probably ride Nov 1st for sure.. Everyone welcome..
more details to come..
I plan on riding everyday.. Beasley, FS rds, could be talked into Windrock or even Aetna...(never been)
-
Man, I wish there was more than dirt up there. I hate mud. ;D
-
I know, I know, I know..... We can try 93B again...
like I said, I will go to Windrock.. It is about 3 hrs from Hiawassee.. it would have to be mon, tue, wed if possible...
-
93b? Have you lost your mind? As wet as it has been up here I think I will leave you guys alone on 93b. I'd love to try aetna, I've never been. Is is suppose to be muddy? If I go through mud it's a have to situation.
-
just checked Beasley..
CLOSED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN..
Maybe it will dry out.
-
If it does not rain for another month ;D I bet they are using kayaks up there on 93b.
-
hopefully it at least cleaned the rocks off so you might get some kind of traction...
-
The rocks are probably covered in soaking wet leaves and trust me they get slick up here this time of year.
-
Here's the plan if it's ok with everyone. If you take 76 east out of hiawassee, follow it until you get to where 76 crosses lake burton( burton bridge), on the west side of the lake before crossing bridge, there is a pull off/ picnic area on the right directly across from vickers rd. This will be our meeting location at 10 a.m. From there we will go to persimmon rd and go through an unmapped rd called abe gap( the one on the map that I drew a straight line on), off of patterson gap, to coleman river rd. We will come out of coleman and head up tallulah river rd and cross the river. This will be hightower. We will follow it through to the hiawassee end and come out on highway 76. If anyone wants to add another trail to ride on the hiawasse end, then feel free to post directions from upper hightower rd, towns county ga. This ride that I have posted will take about 3-4 hours. Here's the map link. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112772890292564314142.000476504fad5471eecd6&ll=34.892267,-83.528538&spn=0.102222,0.222301&t=h&z=13

Trailwhale, if your planning on 93b I hope you've got some body armor on that big truck. Have you ever been there? And yes it's for nov 1st. watch this recent video from 93b
-
Good video.. Not sure Trailwale could make much progress.. I struggled the last trip. I wonder how a f350 would anywhere up there with the tight trails and the wooops.. and tight turns...
-
yeah and that's before the 14+ inches of rain we have had in the past 3-4 weeks. I can only imagine what it's like now especially with wet leaves too.
-
No worries here.. I will not be at Beasley if it is wet......
It would be miserable ballchain
-
I hear ya, I can't afford body damage. I'd rather spend my hard earned money on upgrades rather than replacement parts. Lol! I will post some pics this weekend of the ride after I scout it out.
-
That would be great.. I was wondering what the sights were on the new trail..
I saw "the old guy" in the club slide on the North GA clay. man it is slick.. He could'nt even stand up..
he was very helpful in pulling the winch cable though....
-
That is a tight trail! Had no idea. Ya, body work is not something Id enjoy doing. And I sure dont have time betwen now and next Wednesday to fab up some sliders and an exocage. Maybe by the next trip.
Is the picnic area you talked about near the high school? Thats the only one I can think of off hand.

Rabun-
Got it, not the one I was thinking of, but I do know where that one is.
RockinWrangler-
got your PM, but for some reason I cant respond to it.
We stay off Upper High Tower, and Bare Foot Rise. The cabin backs up to the National Forest, and sits on the top of the Mtn. Quite a steep grade to get up there. We have had friends bring rental cars up, and you can always smell the tranny when they get to the driveway. The moving truck broke down trying to get up, and the two truck that came to the "rescue" snaped the winch line, and blew out the CV joint in the driveshaft trying to get it up there.
Looking forward to meeting you all next weekend.

Trailwhale, if you wanna clean out a mudhole with those 38s there is 3 decent ones on the abe gap trail we are going to. We will winch you out if needed but you probably won't need to. I've got a new warn 9500 i've been dying to test out. I'm outta the mud unless i gotta get in it.
-
I am not a mud fan. Usually too much clean up. I dont mind it if its part of the trail, but not into hitting a hole just to go through it. I do prefer the rocks. And if I need to be winched out, thats not going to be fun. I do have a 12K winch inside the ARB bumper if I, or anyone needs it.

I'm still up in the air, I'll definately know something by the end of the week.
Mostly likely will be able to make it thought. {letseat}
-
If you were stuck i'd probably just winch myself to you. But you could hook that 12k to a tree and uproot it or pull your bumper off one or the other.
-
I dont know which would be worse, the bumper or the tree. Probably the tree. Maybe if we tied about 4 Jeeps together, and tied off to a tree, or 5, I might be able to pull myself out.
-
Here's a video of the small mudhole on the unmapped f/s road called abe gap. It's me in my old slick tires, no locker, and you can pee on a tire and get stuck jeep cj7. I don't miss this jeep, every time I tried to work on it I broke something else. LOL!!!!
-
On the fence about this one. Want to go but sundays are not the best for me. I am trying! Nice leasurely ride.
-
Awww , come on, Don't you want to see the fall colors? The video link works now for the cj7 on abe gap.
-
:D Thus why I hate mud! I do want to go, just have to bring my daughter and son, which makes for a little more work. ;) But I am still game.
-
Hey Ben,
I will have a extra seat if you need one...
-
My jeep is stock height w/ 31's so are there go arounds for the funner stuff? {boohoo} If so, I'm in!

Thanks Doug. And for jeepin gal, Don't worry there's nothing that you can't go through on our ride. One of my friends has a 83 ford ranger with 30x9.50s and stock and he does this trip with me all the time. If we add anything rough we will take care of ya.
-
Thanks Doug.... this will be alot easier...

If your still looking for people to go on that ride it sounds perfect to my. My tahoe doesn't want any dents either but it would be great to get the tires muddy.
