Well I've been researching amps lately so I can play at bars and restaurants when I'm at school and with my sister at some of her regular gigs when I come back home. Started searching on eBay and came across a great deal on a used Crate amp (great brand, but the description was, "Crate Durango Acoustic Amp (Has Issues): everything works except the effects modes.) I created my account and placed my first bid on eBay. I watched it for a couple of hours (it had 5 left on it when I first stumbled on it) and I made two other bids to gain the lead before I decided that's all I wanna pay for it since I really don't know what I'm paying for. Well I ended up winning it. $150 shipped (retails for around $500)... couldn't be happier. It got in today and I've been fiddling with it for awhile. It sounds great and good lord it gets loud! I read up a little on the bad effects functions. Turns out it's a pretty common problem with this unit and Crate is quick to talk the average musician through it so I feel like I'll be able to handle the relatively simple wiring and soldering. I probably won't even use the effects on it that much honestly which is why I thought it was a good deal for me (as long as everything else worked properly. Took a little bit of a risk, but it payed off. The seller had awesome feedback so I felt like I could trust what he told me. My first eBay transaction couldn't have gone smoother. He gets 5 stars from me {toast}

x2 now you have to wade through all the businesses selling crap from Hong Kong to buy stuff from just people.

I've bought a few things off ebay and never had any issues but I try and stay away from it now. I stick to craigslist and forums. That way I know I'm dealing with a person.
congrats on the purchase tho. you gonna try and play at chops and the like here in milly vegas now?

Yea I already talk to the manager at Chops a few months ago and he was setting me up to play a couple songs during one of the regular guy's breaks, but I told him I didn't have any sound equipment and he was like... "You gotta get some." ha I'm gonna try to start there and then check out other bars and places like Mellow Mushroom

FREE BIRD!!!
But seriously, keep it country and classic rock. Can't go wrong. And throw in some 80's every now and then.

you have to know friends in low places, freebird and the ballad of curtis lowe. a good selection of new country is always good. some jason maraz/john mayor type stuff is good for the acoustic/small bar setting to woo the ladies. make sure you have a tip bucket. chops doesn't supply one. haha.
