Most of you already know Scout. He's a 2005 model Labrador Retriever and he's already pretty much built, just needs a little fine tuning.
I will be updating this thread as the build progresses

Without further ado, I would now like to introduce you to Wrangler. She is a December 2009 model and will primarily be the focus of this build thread. We are hoping that the qualities of the older Scout model will transfer over to this new younger model. In time we will combine the great qualities of both models to create a new super dog. Stay tuned. {toast}

Thanks Mike, I've been waiting all week for this thread. She sure is purtty. {toast}
-
Thanks ya'll. The pups will be a little ways down the road, but they are coming. She is really doing well. She's already adapted to her kennel and sleeps all night.
I know there are already pet threads out there, but I wanted something I could update progress periodically. {toast}
Also if anybody wants a pup and doesn't want to wait for a year and a half, there are still a few awesome looking pups left from Wrangler's litter. All of the females are gone, but if you want a male, let me know and I'll give you the info.

It's time for an update. This new build is tougher than I thought it would be. Scout and I will be lucky to survive. Wrangler may look sweet, but she packs a vicious bite. We'll both be glad when the razor puppy teeth are gone.
She progresses every day though and is actually starting to bite people less, but Scout's neck is still taking a beating. She weighed 9.5 lbs at her 6 week checkup and weighed in at a whopping 20 lbs for her 9 week vet visit. Scout weighed 17 lbs at the same age. She's 10 weeks now and probably about 23 lbs. I'm thinking of changing her name to Pork Chop.
Here are a few pictures I added. Some of them are from the snow we got a couple of weeks ago.

Found another video from 2 weeks ago over at Kathleen's house. This one is hilarious and pretty much sums it up. Wrangler don't take no crap.
-
It was a busy day for Wrangler. This morning she went to the vet for her final round of puppy vaccines. Then this evening she got to go for her first swim.
She weighed in at 50 lbs and is 18 weeks.
She was apprehensive of the water at first and I nudged her a couple of times when she was right at the edge. From there, I let her work it out on her own. Once she figured out she could swim, she did great. She’s fast in the water too for the first time.

My dog needs help, she loves being in shallow water, but flips her shit when her feet can't touch.

I don't really know the solution as all my dogs have been easy to get swimming. I would suggest maybe swimming with her and calling her to you. Either that or find a toy that she just has to have. With her condition, I wouldn't toss her in, as that might make her more afraid. It has to be her idea.
I bet swimming with her would work though. If she won't swim out to you, carry her out and hold her in the water until she relaxes, then let her swim back to shore.
-
Awesome Vid Mike. Just letting her work it out.
Now bring her to the lake and we'll get her jumping full speed off the dock.
-
I've done both. Swimming out to me seemed to work the best, but after she swam to me and realized what she did, she freaked out, swam back to shore and cried until I came back and wouldn't do it again. When I throw a toy in the water, she just cries until it floats to her. Its a trip watching her though, she will lean out as far as she can while keeping her footing, then she'll take one step too far and her back legs just stick out to the side, her head sinks, and her tail starts flailing around.
-
Mike, swung by the pad yesterday afternoon, you were out. Saw the pup... got big!
-
Jimmy - my dog is the same way. He's half lab and is freaked out by deep water.
-
My schnauzer loves the water, almost too much. She likes to jump off the boat in the middle of the lake. Sometimes she heads straight towards the shore :o

lol, Mines a lab/pit mix I think. She's freaking retarded, maybe I should get her floaties!
-
Montana loves the water... Bruce has never been... yet

It sounds like it's just gonna take some time for her to feel comfortable. It might be the pit bull in her. I haven't seen too many of them swimming the lakes.
One other thing you might try is to hold her in the water while she's relaxed. Then give her a shove away from shore, but stay between her and shore. Catch her when she tries to swim back to shore and repeat.

Maybe that's because I was watching cars go around in circles at Talladega. Sorry I missed you. {toast}

Might not be a bad idea, really. The make flotation devices for dogs. That might help her get over her fear.
-
Those pics and videos are cool. The lab that we rescued loves the water. I could not believe how much these dogs like swimming in the water.

When is Wranglers body gonna catch up with that head?
Nothing like having a pup around. They grow out of it too fast sometimes, and not fast enough others.

LuLu loves the water.. Charlie is getting alot better at swimming... which brings me to another point.. in about 11 months LuLu will be for sale.. and so will her pups.. all but one... a yellow lab male... if she has one.. and she better..

Haven't updated this in a while. Here's a couple of videos from the snow/ice last week.
Pretty bad ice when 90 lbs dogs can't even brake through to the snow.
Wrangler's goofy ass taking a leak.

Very Cool!!! {toast}

I think that might even be better than watching a dog on a hardwood/tile floor. Watching dogs who aren't accustomed to a lot of snow is always fun to watch.
