I guess I am starting to look for a car trailer. Whatcha got? Not looking to break the bank and don't mind doing a little work if its a deal.
-
They seem to have gone up lately for a good trailer. I'll keep my eye open for a deal.
You lookin for a nice one or a fixer upper?
-
Either depending on the deal
-
My bro has a real nice one but, it is a 3 axle, i think 18 ft and has an electric jack on the front. He might sale it cheap if you have something big enough to pull it. He does pull it empty with his XJ. I'm sure it can be bought under a grand. LMK
-
Got any pictures? How wide between the fenders? Brakes? How are the tires on it?
-
Easy enough to drop an axle. {toast}
-
When i was looking for a trailer i found a guy that built trailers to order in alabama. the trailer i was looking at was 18ft long, 83" wide deck. here are the specs
7,000 g.v.w.r.
3,500 x 2 g.a.w.r.
2 5/16 Ball cast coupler (clam shell as mark calls it)
9x72 tear drop fenders
safety chains
7,000 lb jack
1 ez lube idler axle
1 brake axle
4 leaf double eye spring suspension
4 15" white spoke wheels
4 st205/75/d15 bias tire 1820 lb
5 inch channel tongue
3x5x1/4 Angle Frame
2x3x3/16 angle crossmembers
DOT approved lights
protected wire lights
i was kinda worried about the idler axle, i dont know how they pull, ended up buying a better trailer that was slightly used
-
No fenders, kinda looks like an equipment trailer but if it is, its for small equipment. Plenty wide enough for hauling a full size truck. Has 2x8 rough sawn flooring in good shape, 2 fold down ramps, painted yellow (fresh), tires are all good. I was thinking you could take the other axle out and then it would be easier to turn it around. If you want I will give him a call in the am and get a pic tomorrow. He traded a broke down Xj for it so im sure its a good price.
-
That'd be great if you could get some more info on it and a price. I'd like to know width of the deck, my Jeep is 80" wide and having tires hang over is just a little worrisome.

Ill check tom and measure and get pics too. I gotta go down there and check on that t case for richard anyways. Also need to get a pic of my full widths for my build thread. {toast}

We can build extensions on the side with 2x2 if its within a few inches. As long as the $$ is right.

What is wrong with a little hangover {ehm}
-
If its half or less doesnt bother me. As long as it strapped its not going any where.
Unless you are talking about a different hangover {hihi}

I know, mine hangs over yours a little if its not perfectly centered. Piece of mind is nice though.
-
I will prob build some rails whenever I get started on it. Dang so much to do.
-
Forgot to put in there he sells those trailers for $1,500 brand new. You can probablt talk the guy down
-
Bad news man. I asked him and he aint ready to sell it just yet. Sorry dude, I tried. {toast}

These are the cheapest guys I know of for new:
http://atlastrailers.net/
http://www.qualitytrailers4less.com/
If you are 80" wide, you'll have no problem finding a trailer. Most of the car trailers are 82" between the fenders. My Jeep is 83.5". :(
Get 2 brake axles if you can. Cheap up front, and easy to ad later too.
What does yours weigh Jimmy?

^ I'm seeing them new for that price or close to it. Looking to stay under a grand, or I can't really justify buying used. Not sure how much I weigh, its just a stock Jeep with 37's and 60's, probably pretty light.

I haven't seen an 18' dove 7000# WOOD with 2 brake axles with new tires (not take off police tires), fenders, jack, and ramps for less than $1805 without a spare. I looked hard for months. That one is a diamond plate steel hauler.
I bought a 10,000# due to the beast being so heavy.
-
Doug whats the weight on your jeep?
-
Doug whats the weight on your jeep?
5320#'s before the Rock Jock 60's and Poison Spyder Crusher Flare Fenders with soft top with no frame.
I estimate that it's 5700#'s now. Sound right?
So with a 1500# steel trailer, I was over 7000GVWR.
-
I forgot you have the extra steel. Man that thing is heavy.

Then ad my fat arse! :o
-
I believe all new trailers need brakes on all axles by law.
I hang over a couple of inches on each side; no problem. That said, you need stout fenders if you're rolling over them.

There is one in one of your links for a little over $1700, I don't need 18' anyway, and the 16' is around $1500. There is a guy on eBay in KY called Bluegrass Trailers for $1400-1500 for 18' and little more for steel deck, but they may have only one braking axle. Either way it doesn't matter since I am trying to stay around 1000.
-
There is a guy in byron that sells them for 1200 new. Doesnt matter cause it over 1000.00 {hihi}
-
I think I wouldn't mind paying the 200 :P
-
We will go look at them tomorrow.

I bought a 14 with 2ft dovetail dual axle brakes with new tires all led lights, think its 82 or 83 wide It was 3 years old. And it was close to 1,000. If u want u can look at the pics of it on my project toyota build

Offer him a grand Jimmy. {toast}

I prefer wood deck over metal, mainly because the metal heats up in Summer and is uncomfortable to lie on.

That is funny Richard, I was thinking of doing almost that exact thing on my small trailer to sent the Redneck Ritz on, I won't use that much wood though.
-
What kind of small trailer is underneath that thing??? LoL

Are you talking about the guy with the red trailers on Hwy 41? I looked at them about a year ago and I think $1200 was about what he told me for an 18'er.

Yep thats the guy. Thats the best deal I have seen.. 18 is all we need. I want to go talk to him, I bet he would make a deal if we sold 5 of them for him.
-
Trailer was a bust. To out of square to be safe.
Guys beware ifyou are looking for a trailer don't deal with this trailer. Link coming later.

Supposedly, one side had the axle brackets bent and that was why it was out of square. In reality, the whole damn trailer is 6" out of square.
-
get ur money back?
-
I hadn't paid for it yet.
-
I saw that one and talked to the guy. Could tell he wasn't exactly forthcoming. He tecnically has a totaled trailer from impact and is tryoing to offload it on someone else, and shame is, he will.
Axles may be bent too in addition to the spring perches, and fronm u guys said, the frame.
Scrap metal.
-
theres a car trailer down the street from me... he doesnt have a sign on it yet and says hes going to wait for that till after a yard sale so he can use it... but its got round tube sides, fender flares, and its deff been used many of times... but hes asking $800... me personally would give him more like $600...
-
Jimmy, If you haven't found a trailer yet, I may have found one for you. It will probably need a little work for what you need, but the guy who has it now used it "as is". Looking like the price might be around the $500 range. I won't know any more until after this weekend. We'll talk more this weekend.

Man, he's selling for the reason I have been putting off picking a trailer up, but I may have to call about this one. {popcorn}
-
I have pretty much the same trailer, good tires, new spare boxed in lights, breakaway unit and all.
Will sell to you for the same money if you are in need and I'm much closer, in Jackson, Ga.
The tool box comes with it.
$1150.00 for GATR guys/gals

depends on if you wanted a open or closed center... open is nice fixing vehicles... closed is nice for lawn mowers and such...
-
Very true..I found in the past that 2 points of positive note came to mind, as said, the ability to work well under the vehicle dropping trans. and other items was a great asset and 2 the ability to fab compartments to haul extra materiasl, axle shafts, tools, drive shafts etc.etc.etc.
It certainly never mattered to me any way if it did or didn't have an open center since I weld a lot and fab most of my needs as I see warranted but I like the ability of placing things where they are out of my way and or can just add a couple planks and have a full cover.
I think it will sell in due time, just wanted to post here 1st before going to other sites.
For $1150.00 for GATR persons.
