Title: CO2 tank
Post by: GaDawg on January 22, 2011, 09:18:32 PM
If anyone has a tank I'd like to know what hose you are using. What pressure rating?

Livingston does. His set up is simple, PM him. I went with "Source". It has everything but pricey...

I got the blue self coiling hose from Lowes. I'm running a 150 psi fixed regulator.

Got a Power Tank and replaced the hose with a yellow self-coiling one from Northern Tool.  Think its rated at 140psi but the regulator doesn't go much beyond that.

Livingston will tell you, I keep neglecting to get my tank filled. I have a Warn compressor in the back of the JK though. It got worked at the D-town AD-Hoc ride.

Hey Livingston, I have a 150 psi fixed regulator. I was thinking I had to get something like a 200 psi working pressure hose. I guess I don't . Thats good news. Also, where do you get the tanks filled?

I get mine filled at Sidney Lee Weld Supply. {toast}

I get mine filled at Palmer Welding Supply in Loganville. I'm looking for a new place though. They get more expensive every time. The last fill was almost $30 for a 15 lbs tank.

Cheapest around that I know of is off of Hwy 78 at Mountain Industrial:
Beverage Control Inc.
770-939-9637
5060 North Royal Atlanta Dr., Suite 21
Tucker, GA 30084

20# was $18.  Been awhile though.  I use my on-board air if at all possible and save the tank for a dire need.  I hate having to go get a tank filled.

I would like to add a gauge on my tank that shows the tank pressure, that at least gives an idea of how much is left.  Is this the way to go?

I Weighed my tank Empty Labeled it with the Empty Weight had it filled then reweight it after I filled my tires up just to get a Idea how many fills I get out of a tank.  If I am not sure I weigh it before a Ride.  It takes about 10 minutes to get it filled up.

Most tanks have the empty weight stamped on them minus the regulator.

From what I have seen, the tank pressure is not a great indication of capacity. The pressure shows that the tank is nearly full for a long time, then drops off to zero really quickly as the tank approaches empty.

Jimmy is correct. CO2 is a hypercritical liquid... it is stored as a liquid that only takes about 800psi to keep it in that liquid state. As CO2 is used, the gas space inside grows to fill the empty space until all the liquid is gone. Only then will the pressure start to drop, and drop quickly.

That's why CO2 tanks are always measured in terms of weight and filled based on weight too. The gauge will really only give you a good final warning that it is about to run out.

I use nitrogen $10 to swap bottles at airgas my hose is hyd hose just because I need 300 to 350 psi for my shocks they also have regulators for around $80 that are adjustable
