Title: POTTS Construction
Post by: Krawler00 on August 02, 2011, 02:19:17 PM
I have a phone interview today with them and just figured I would ask if anyone knows the company or anyone working for them. I know a few of the guys on here are in the same type of business. {toast}

Don't know much about them other then they build some big projects. I'm pretty sure we haven't bid against them yet because were still trying to stay away from the 5 million plus projects and I don't think they bid many smaller projects. I could be wrong though.

What do they do?

http://www.pottsco.com/

Large construction firm. They have a main headquarters building in Atlanta and this location is in Conyers. It is about 35 miles from my house 1 way. It's not too bad a drive. I am used to driving 8.5 miles to the office now. Bigger corporation means better insurance costs and room to advance. I am being eat alive by insurance and no room to advance. Been putting apps in for about a month now. This is the 2nd one to respond. Makes you feel worthless. But I know there are 200 others biding for the same position. Interview is at 4:30 so I will post up how it went.

Interview went awesome. I am at the top of the list, so she said. Chuck, I am going for a graphics job. But I would like to move up in the company. I feel after talking to her, I could. Who knows what will happen.

No, I took all links and social sites out of the equation about 2 months back. The next step is face to face interviews. They say they need someone by the end of the month so who knows. My impression of the interview was great. But, you never know. When it is time to leave my current job, they will be in some serious trouble. I almost want them to counter offer and tell me to stay. I would make a year contract, x amount extra salary guarantee. When people say at there jobs that they do everything, well, I do everything! So when I leave they will need to find a designer, engineer and photographer. So we shall see what this new place has to offer in the face to face. {toast}

Well, the interview was great, had all the right answers and not just BS answers. I fit there bill but not sure I fit the environment. It is a bit more office style than I would like. I was told it was pretty relaxed for dress but everyone was wearing ties, button ups, slacks and fancy shoes  :D The office is fairly small with no real room to feel separated from anyone. My potential office was a split office so no real privacy. But the kicker was the work load. Seems I would be jumping out of 1 fire into another bigger fire. I am ready to ease back the fire control as it has been atleast 5 years of wide open stress. My hair is quickly turning grey! So I think I am going to have to pass when offered a position, if at all. I really don't want to work somewhere that I don't "feel" it when I walk in the door. Plus it is a 70 mile round trip drive and with gas the way it is, just does not make sense right now. As they say, the grass is not always greener... yet. ;)

Yeah, guess you'll have to give up the flip flops and shorts! lol

Welcome to the real world.

I know what you mean about the long drive and putting out fires. I passed on 3 jobs beacuse the 45+ minute drive to and from work. My last job while it paid Ok was way to much stress. I can't remember being as relaxed as I am now.

I do drive about 45min each way. It sux but does pay the bills. I do know that new gas hog I mean jk will not get driven much at 12 mpg

It will be hard to find the "perfect" job as it just does not exist anymore. If I could just figure out how to get an offroad parts store and mountain bike shop combined ;D But, I have to look at what I have right now. Which is a job, close to home and very flexible hours. I may not enjoy what I am doing currently but it is putting meals on the table. I will just keep looking. I may sound slack, but I am ready to have 1 hat on my head instead of 8 or more. And the dress code needs to be shorts and t shirt, flip flops optional :D My job used to be a blast and I looked forward to going in to work. Not anymore. Times are tough and unfortunately the really fun jobs have been cut out. It is really tough out there right now and so I am thankful to have what I got.

Yes the stress is the kicker for me too, for 22 years I had job that was 20 miles round trip. Then six years ago I took a job that takes 80 miles round trip but the stress is gone and it's for a Aerospace company that is striving in these times.

You get what I am wanting then. Hard to find and it may come down to me getting away from my graphics career for awhile. I am honestly ready to do some physical labor again. Been sitting behind this desk for 9 years. All of my previous jobs have been labor related. Nothing like earning a living the hard way ;)

I'll trade with ya Ben. You can have this heat and I'll come sit in the AC. {no} And I miss my 80 and 90 mile commutes now that I have been working out of town since January. But like said it puts food on the table and pays the bills. I would luv to have a job close to the house but just don't think the money is there especially since my wife just lost her job last week. :-\

Tell me about it. I've been done with school for about a month now and currently I have got no luck finding jobs. I'm having trouble even getting calls.

Hell G, you don't drive, you ride.  {toast} Thanks, people like you "riding" makes it so I can almost afford to drive.

I wish I could. Gas is still below 1$ there in some areas...@Mark, I know...I ride half a world away 3 times a year and now we are changing rotations, so I will be home only 2x a year. It was 137 degrees week before last, we are taking huge pay-cuts on my end as well....just trying to say, sometimes taking a chance has its rewards. I don't like the Mid-East but it pays the bills. We all want jobs we love and to be well compensated for it. That would be in a perfect world. Times are tough for all of us. Sacrifice and compromise "could" have its rewards. Don't live in regret!!

G, you do what you have to do to put the food on the table and keep the lights on. I have 3 kids to worry about and finding the right job is important for me and there future. I have to keep where I am at until I find something better. No way I would walk out without having something already lined up. I have burnt bridges before, but the older you get, the harder it is to find a real job and references to back you. Hurry up and end the war so we can get back to "normal" ;D
