Like the title says : What is your favorite upgrade you've done to your rig?
This will help the new guys decide where to start!! //cheers2//
-
Sliders were the best investment I've made. Saved my butt many times.
-
Before I do anything, I put a full cage in tied to the frame.
-
Lockers (front and back)
-
4.88 gears, chromoly shafts & lockers. Detroit locker in back, ECTED Max in front.
-
Eaton front E-locker //SLAMIN//
-
To use the God given smarts to "NOT" do something so stupid that it may cause injury or destruction to someone!
-
Cheapest best mod... quick disconects for the front.
Best overall mod... bellyup skid and lockers.
-
1) MT Tires
2) Lockers
3) Hydraulic winch
-
Aussie or Antirock... both have done great, both done at the same time.
-
Spartan front locker
Super 35 Eaton E-locker
-
Bought a trailer to take the broken remains home, while riding in the comfort of my truck knowing I'll make it to work on Monday. ;D

Yes

Still on my mod list ;D

On my Wagoneer, the 2" springs have been the best modification yet. Everything else has pretty much been replacment peices.
On my wife's TJ, I think the Nth Degree tummy tuck is my favorite. I just installed a locker in her front locker, but we haven't tried it out yet.
-
I was amazed when I did my bellyup. I put it on after my 2nd trip to tellico. My old skid is in my shed and looks like it hit an IED. Good wall art ;D
-
Hopefully I can say the Antirock sway-bar will be one of the best upgrades I've made after this weekend!! I had sever body roll at MSORP!!
-
When I got my previous Jeep and decided to go offroad, the first thing I did was add a cage and a winch.
The first mod that made a big difference was getting some good tires (MTRs).
After that I replaced stock D30/35 with D44s and lockers.

Wow - The RockRam system made a huge difference!! I couldn't turn at all if my tires were bound up or on the rocks. Not to mention every turn was a 3 point!! :fu( Very happy!!

Grey wire mod hands down
-
What is a grey wire mod?
-
Pretty much you tap into the Toyota 4X4 harness ground and cut a wire. It gives you the option to engage the factory Electronic locker whenever you want instead of just in 4LO.
-
Danny, my new box worked awesome as well. Not one complaint from it all day! Now I just need to really test it out in some rocks. {cheers2}

Got it. Rubi mod much like that as well.

Does this apply to the new JK's too?
-
Yes. On the Jk's with a quick fix on the wires you can have lockers and the e-disco in 2wd/4wd hi.
-
Okay, I didn't know if the 2012's were the same way. They really need to work on that front sway-bar system. It's an awesome feature, but it seems like every time we're on the trail, there is someone that has one side folded forward or bent the wrong way!

Isn't that a case of the links being too short? Down travel allows them to flip. I think it's a simple fix.
-
Yea from what I remember if you lifted you had to change the links. If they are too short they allow it to flip over like doug said. Too long and you dont get enough travel. I say sell the system and go Antirock!

From a new trail rider's point of view, I would point out that a stock Jeep is a descendant of a military vehicle and is really very capable with _no_mods_whatsoever_. So don't worry about mods, just go out and wheel it.
The very first mod to my TJ was a set of tire deflators and a decent cheap air compressor to run off of the lighter plug. My first offroad adventure was some mining trails in AZ, a side trip from a "normal" camping trip. Totally stock, I just aired down and tried it. The jeep had no problems, and was way more capable than its driver. Airing down helps on every obstacle, every trail, every rock, every bump. I recommend it for a first "mod."
Similarly my TJ came to me with BFG AT 31" when I got it, and having tires that are meant for off road, really matters everywhere. Every foot of trail will touch your tires. So get good tires early.
My first real mechanical modification to the Jeep was anti-swaybar disconnects. The extra flex you add to the suspension by simply disconnecting the swaybar is useful for every obstacle big or small. The softer ride from airing down and disconnecting, makes for a more enjoyable ride on the trail too.
Lots of other mods are useful, but in specific circumstances ... A couple inches of lift, a locker, a tummy tuck, nerf bars, tow bumpers, I have all of these too, and I like them. But for a new person, I would start with good tires, aired down, disconnected swaybar -- these mods I have found most useful on every trail, all the time.

Mile Marker Part-time quadratrac conversion
-
well because my old cj didn't come with fuel injection I would have to say my best two mods where the howell fuel injection kit and my lockers
-
I'd have to say my ARB lockers. World of difference!
-
Changing gear ratio from 3.73 to 5.13s!!

Besides the dumb luck of having bought a Rubicon as my first Jeep... my best mod would be my Warn Powerplant HP. 125' of cable and air up when done.
-
Power Plant - Nice! </ROCKIN/>
-
Sliders for me. They work

-
Toyo MTs, made the jeep much more capable and makes it look better too.
-
I think the spod for me is the best since I am a wiring idiot

But that might change after I get my gears done

Been looking myself. I hate window mounts but would love something (other than a vent holder) to keep my phone while driving since it is my Navi as well.

Velcro works great! You can put it anywhere and it's great if you have kids.

Left out my best mod...it has to be starting off with a rubicon. I had a 97 tj and upgrading the axles was $$$.
-
ARB lockers. As they say, it is like cheating!
-
Buying a second jeep that goes on a trailer. I don't have to worry about breaking junk and figuring out how to get home. Second one is paying off the first jeep.
