My son is begging for a new game system for Christmas. Any suggestions on which is better??
I found the 360 at Best Buy for $299.99 - It includes the XBOX 360, 1 controller, 1 game, & the Kinect system + $100.00 gift certificate!! Sounds like a great deal, but I heard the 360 isn't as good as the PS3.
Any input would be great!! Thanks :hlp {popcorn}

We have 2 ps3's in our house. The big advantage that the PS3 has is that it will play blue ray movies also.

I love my ps3! plays anything dvd, cd or blu ray. The online gameplay is free where it costs on the xbox.
-
I forgot about the free online. I love COD 5.

Love me some Black Ops too! </ROCKIN/>

PS3. Love mine. Netflix, online is free. It plays everything and audio is awesome. I enjoy downloading demos to play too. Free. No complaints from me. Just get the big hardrive. {salute}
-

Well it all depends... Playstation (to me) is great for media. Plays blue-ray, free online and LARGE hard drives for storage. The Xbox360 does have the option for larger hard drives and does play regular DVD's. The Xbox360 has a larger, and more supported, online game community. But you pay anywhere from $39-59 a year for Xbox Live Gold. The Xbox Kinect is by far the best of the motion sensor systems and is a lot of fun. Once they start to use the Kinect in games more it will be awesome. Both systems have system specific games like SOCOM is Playstation, not Xbox. Might want to find out if there is any 1 game he wants to play....

PS3 has the Kinect now also.

I have seen the hacks to use the Xbox Kinect with PS3, do they actually have their own Kinect now? Their Move Motion isnt close but it does allow you to play certain shooter games though.

I couldn't remember what PS3 called theirs, but they do have the eye camera, move motion, move navigation and the move sharp shooter. We looked at some of these at best buy I really wasn't interested in any of the games they offered that used these devices, except for maybe the wild game hunting. But , we also own a Wii and I do not like that system either. The motion stuff is just not my cup of tea.
-
I have known too many guys with the xbox tell me they got the ring of death multiple times so it was enough to convince me to skip it. I have not heard anything negative on the PS3. I plan on getting the move stuff but it is pricey (they all are) Love my blu ray though. I can use any formatted dvd and it plays no problem. I just wish ALL games were made for ALL consoles. I miss my old xbox for some of the games, but never had a 360.
-
Ben, the PS3 does have an issue called the yellow light of death (ylod). I just replaced both of my PS3's due to this. Basically, for some reason the power supply dies. Both of my units were about 4 years old and the only time they got turned off is when we would move lol. For the record, the reason I have 2 of them is because I would take one with me when I traveled to a job site so that I could still play games with my son back home and actually talk with him via the headsets.
-
Well, I wouls suggest you TURN THEM OFF FROM TIME TO TIME! {whack3}
-
We had a XBOX 360 @ the shop and it got the ring of death!!
He really wants Madden 2012 & I think they make it for both systems. It is cool that the PS3 plays Blue ray, because I'm putting it down stairs in the guest room - We do not have cable down there, since we never hang out there. The price difference is pretty major though.

PS3 For blu-ray and classic game play.
Xbox for Kinect and Halo.
Its a toss up. I bought a PS3.
-
I guess your biggest factor should be your kid. Ask what his friends have. If they all have Xbox then get Xbox, if its PS3 then PS3. No point in buying him something if he cant play with his friends... I play games online but it gets a lot better when you play online with friends. Also, a good headset goes great to keep my wife from getting pissed at the loud volume. I can mute the TV and turn the head phones up and chat with friends.
Chuck I think the motion thing is the future. I don't like it for some games but I know the new Halo game they have used voice controls from Kinect to throw grenades and such. Splinter Cell is suppose to use the Kinect a lot when it comes out with new game. It wont take off though until they quit making all the cartoon sports games that look the same on Wii/Xbox/PS. The nerd inside me cant wait for the new Star Wars game to come out so I can bitch slap some storm troopers with Kinect.

I don't get to play as much as I would like. If I did not have kids, I would probably be a gamer. I love me some killzone on PS3. Best 1st person shooter is Killzone 3. Freakin rocks!
-
The ps3 also doesnt require a monthly fee to play online

everyone in the dealership was just starring at me for literally laughing out loud at that....lol

I think I'm going to go with the 360. He doesn't play any online games (yet) and you get a lot more for the money + $100.00 gift certificate!! AKA present for the wife!! //007//
-
There is no downfall to either really. I just prefer my PS3.
-
One negative to Xbox, tho I love them, is their longevity. They've worked out a lot of the heat issues, but I just had a 3 yr old Xbox (just out of warranty, of course!) die on me.
If you DO play online games, the Xbox Live is much more active than PSN.
I even have a 360 in the 4Runner for my boys!

They also had a ton of used games at Best Buy so I spent the gift card on a few. Seeing as how my son breaks EVERYTHING he owns, I figured that's probably the best way to go until he gets a little older!!
-
I have owned both. PS3 is superior in most ways, except for not having kinect (not that many good games for it anyways, unless you want to dance) and the resolution. Most 360 games are in 1080 where most PS3 games are 720. Not to big of a problem though.
Wii is only good for one thing, Netflix in my bedroom.
-
PS3 is 1080 also. That's the purpose for the blue ray player. You can set it for either 1080i or p.

What is a good shooter game? I bought Resident Evil 5, because I was addicted to it on the Wii. I haven't played it yet, but I saw about 20 shooter games @ Best Buy. Two that looked good were Fallout New Vegas & Gears of War.
Any suggestions?
-
Saints Row and COD Modern Warfare 3 are all the rage right now. Never played Saints Row and my personal opinion is COD MW3 is almost the same exact game as MW2. The story line changed the game offline and on is the same.

We bought our son an Xbox 360 Halo edition last year. When we bought it we were told that the overheating issue causing the red ring of death had been resolved. Also we purchased a replacement warranty through Best Buy. That has saved us money in the past.
My son and I look for Co-op games so we can play together. Our favorites have been the Halo and Gears of War series. We also really like the two Left for Dead games. Army of Two was cool, but a little too sophisticated for my simplistic skills.
We still have our PS2, but we really only use it for RockBand.

I didnt say the PS3 wasnt 1080. I said almost all the games made for the PS3 are 720 res only. Check the game package. The movies and the menu are 1080, but playing the games are almost all 720. I havent seen many that are 1080 for the PS3. Still superior system, but could be better.
-
Just set up a Netflix account last night through the 360!! We have Netflix at work on a smart TV, but that's the only time I've ever used it.
Having Netflix at home is pretty BA, considering there is nothing on TV this time of year & they are closing the blockbuster by my house!! I keep hearing Hulu is better for TV shows, but not movies - so I might try that out too!
-
I was not a big fan of netflix on the xbox. Most of the movies were old or no namers so I didn't find much to watch. Stopped the service when their fees went up.
-
I was having trouble finding some of the movies I was looking for too, but if you go in and search for the title it usually comes up.
-
Netflix streaming sucks. Nothing really new. As for shooter games. I recently bought killzone 3. It is by far the best 1st person shooter game I have ever played. Best buy had them pre owned for $25. It is bad A!!! 3d compatible as well. I can only imagine what that would be like.

I checked my games and out of 6 only one is 720, the other 5 are 1080.
