Title: Labor Day Weekend Ride / camp (sept 2-3)
Post by: Raisinhead on July 29, 2012, 05:01:18 PM
Hey guys,

I am working on getting a little offroad/camping trip scheduled for Labor Day weekend. I have a buddy coming in town from Louisiana with his rubicon for the trip. I've been planning to show him some better trails than what he is used to riding. I am considering Beasley, but haven't set the place yet. We will plan to ride out early on Sunday, wheel sunday, camp, and leave on Monday. Anyone is welcome to join. Suggestions on destinations are also appreciated.  Thanks

Edit: planning on Saturday/sunday instead.

I might be in. Just gotta see how far along this current project is. If your wanting to show him some good trails, you may want to look at places lie Morris Mountain or Chocco.

Either way I might be in!!

Good point. Beasley can be done in well under a day esp in a vehicle with lockers and decent tires. You do always run the risk of it being closed due to rain. It is cheap at $5 but the camp ground is just a gravel lot. You should probably attempt to find a nicer place to camp if you do Beasley. I might be game to go but just depends on what we already have planned I don't know about yet!

Yeah, hopefully you guys can join.  I haven't been to morris mountain or chocco, but I'm good with whatever. We'd like to stay reasonably close (within a couple of hours) as they will be driving back to Louisiana on Monday. I just want them to see how different our terrain is than theirs. And that our trails are so much better!  Haha

Side note: Hopefully gears, locker, axle shafts, and gusset and truss kit can be done before, but i don't think i can make it happen that soon.

Go to Chooco.  It is west in AL within a few hours of ATL and gives them a head start towards home. There is plenty to do for stock to wild.  Hotels close and camping on site with a bath house.

Might can make this one too. They'll post the labor day schedule here soon, then I will know for sure.

I'd take them to Choccolocco. My .02.

Saturday night camping may work better for me than Sunday.

I love Chocco, I'll see if I can make this.

it's Buffalo, half our defense is sitting out....I'm going to wheel.  Plus Chocco has good cell coverage, plenty of phone updates.

Hello to all. My name is Vince. I am on a lot of other forums so you may know or have seen some of my posts. I think its good to have so many places to go to get info or just talk Jeeps. I'm in Peachtree City, Ga. I am a member in Georgiacrawlers. I have not done a lot of wheeling, but hopefully will get out more this year. I have an '04 GC, 2.5"BB and UC springs, (= 3.25"), MX-6 shocks, RR rockrails, JKS discos, skids, Addco rear sway bar, and soon to be installed an Aussie locker. Hope to meet some of you out on a trail sometime.

They will win anyway or better. I need borrow a trailer unless i find one by then.

What are everyone's thoughts on this ride? Who is planning to come? Do you think we should look at other options with a better forecast? Gulches, etc

I might be out. Not sure yet what's going on. Might be getting over ruled by the female in the house.

Im 100% open to suggestions. I've never been to either park, and would like to avoid the rain of at all possible.

i have been to Chocco when it rained and it dried out pretty quick. It's not clay like everything in GA is.

Looks like ya'll had a good time. It's hard to get a group together for rides the aren't on the calendar. We just went to Kentucky, then we have JeepFest coming up + GATRFEST next month. Anyways, glad you guys had fun!! Make sure you come out to Gulches next month, the park is absolutely awesome!!
