Not sure who has one or has been curious to upgrade to the new IOS 6, but I did it last night and the phone seems faster than before. The net loads faster. It has a few things new but not all the new 6 goodies. Cloud is now available and the lock screen has a cool direct 2 camera swipe so you can get to it faster. I read a ton before doing the upgrade on how 5 was a dog and killed the battery and made it run slow so was hesitant. Been running 4.2 since I bought it in '09. So for those who have one and have thought about the upgrade, so far so good.
-
I did mine the other day. Seems fine. No real difference that I can see other than the new apps.
-
did mine the other night also, no draw backs that I can mention yet
-
I heard the best upgrade is called Android

NOT
-
I jailbroke mine, so I don't do the upgrades anymore.

I am not biased to either platform but I love my I phone. Have had this 3GS for over 3 years and it works great. Each platform has there quirks though but I am not a phone nerd! Those people that wig out and stand in line for days waiting on an iphone 5 are plain stupid.
-
I have had both. I really cant say one it better than the other. The are the same. I dont really use a smart phone like they are supposed to be used for anyway. That could be why I feel this way. Its probably strange that a 23 year old could care less. I really just want the thing to make phone calls.

How is the new Maps app? It's no longer Google maps, it's Apple's own mapping app. I've read bad things...
-
I like it better. For the most part it's the same but the in trip directions are much easier to read

I had heard bad things as well but I like it. I have used it and also like the turn by turn directions better.
-
It is basically a copy of google. Has turn by turn and such. On newer 5 phones I think it has a 3d function to show side views and such. But have not used the directions yet for anything. Will do for gulches.
-
What is the app Map y'all are talking about. I got an iPhone and I don't have it
-
Older iphones have google maps included. Newer IOS has gotten rid of google and made another mapping system like google. It has turn by turn directions.

Glad to hear you guys are liking it. I may upgrade this weekend...

Yea. Same price as the new iphone $199 w/ 2yr. After using the iphone for years. I was thinking of going to the 5, as the screen on my 3gs was busted. After comparing the 2 phones at ATT, I was sold on the GSIII. It makes that "large" iphone 5 screen look tiny. </LMAO/> So much more this phone is capable of.
-
I am curious after you use it for a few days what kind of feed back your have

I played with the S3 Sunday at the store and I thought it was a lot nicer and faster but you are limited on what you can do at the store playing on it.
-
yeah I have to go get my hands on both of them. Its hard to find honest reviews... it all seems to be the apple haters or apple lovers. Would love to hear from those who switched from an iphone to a galaxy and the other way around. The apple is an easy to use phone and we are familiar with it but I cant help but feel like it is always behind the other phones as far as tech specs
-
I totally agree and it just seems like the iPhone should be faster than it is.

Still loving it. I havent missed my Iphone at all. The S3 is very fast, and a lot more capable. One gripe though, still no flash player, but that is not something the Iphone would have fixed.
-
Not to mention I dont like the lack of freedom. I would never use any smart phone to the complete capacity 1 could but I do hate that I am limited to the apple store, and they can do what they want with my phone. Why would you delete the youtube app that was loaded on the phone but then allow them to be in the itunes store? Or google maps, why did they delete it just to release an apple maps that is almost exactly the same as google maps? The price for each phone is the same with upgrade and we are in hopes to score some holiday prices when it comes time. My iPhone is still working ok, battery life seems to be going and so is the ear speaker (or i am going deaf) and meg's iphone home button works on like every 5th click. She has had her's since the first day and I have had mine 2 years and its lived a hard 2 years with many hours in my garage, dusty trails, bottom of the dog's water bowl a time or 2 so i know the phones will last.
1 thing very important for me is battery life. My 9 hour day can quickly turn into a 12-13 hr day without warning. I have a backup battery but I dont always have it with me. Right now using my phone in the morning, sitting in my vest for 9 hours with wifi off and a little use now and then I am usually around 70% full when I get home. I have read several reports of the other smart phones having worse battery life and the 5 is supposed to have improved life over the 4.
-
Battery life on the S3 seems to be worse than the Iphone. However, I may be using it more ;D
I can make it a full day, but it must be charged when I get home.
-
Battery life sucks on all smart phones. I remember my little flip phone would last for 4-5 days! Now I go for a day and it has around 40% left at the end. I was wanting to upgrade my phone but since I went to IOS 6, it sure feels like a new phone. Saved me some green backs!

Hey matt, few more questions:
iphone is easy to use. I have gave my mom my old 3g and she use to not even be able to text and now sends me pictures, pandora radio, all that. is the s3 as easy to use?
app store? a lot of apps? a lot of them free or paid?
-
I do have to add this, if you search for ways around issues on the iphone, you can do about anything without jailbreaking one. I made my own ringtones with itunes and have worked some software into it that supposedly would not work. Like I said, I could get an iphone 4 right now for free with a new contract but do not want anymore ties to anything so I upgraded IOS and have been happy.
-
I had mine jailbroke for awhile but didnt really see anything super great over not having it. I didnt want to pay for any of the cool jailbroke apps so a lot was just little glitch stuff.

Different to use but just as easy. You can make it as easy or complicated as you want though. The app stores look almost identical. Still lots of free (maybe more) and still plenty of pay apps. The navigation/gps is superior on the S3 if that is important. Still loving the larger screen the most. Also you can turn lots of features off easily on the S3 to conserve power by pulling a menu down and just clicking the feature.

Matt does it download emails and and pictures pretty quick?
-
Thanks for the info matt. Like i said its hard to find any good reviews. I read an article the other day and it started out great making some good pro and con between the iphone 4, 4s and 5 and i kept waiting to read about it vs the s3, droid, htc but nope nothing. and at the end of the article it says "the iphone5 is the best iphone yet!" Well no $hit! Its the newest, it better be the best 1
-
I have to stay droid... with a droid tablet and phone and all of the apps I've bought. Don't want to start over on the Apple side.
Some of the guys here have the Ipad and I5 and they love it except google doesn't make a good email app for them.... and we are gmail based.

Speed compared to the 3g, the 4glte is just badass. It doesnt take long to download large apps.
I still have a couple Ipad 2s for my Apple satisfaction, so I dont feel like I lost anything switching. Plus you can turn your old phone into a Ipod if you need anything from it other than calls and data service.
-
my only issue switching is all the apps I have paid for with apple. I dont pay for many, the few i did buy were worth it and i got a lot of them at a new price so much cheaper than the current price for them.

Agreed. My tables is 4Glte
